Your West Midlands Wedding - Feb/Mar 2019 (Issue 60)

REAL WEDDINGS 43  was slightly different in design – two had a cross over front, two were halternecks, two had slim-straps and Lucy’s sister Abbie, who is in a wheelchair, had her own style. “The girls all carried small bouquets, which consisted of gypsophila and avalanche roses. The stems of the bouquets were wrapped in the sequin material from the girls’ dresses,” adds the bride. LET’S CELEBRATE Lucy and David opted for a string quartet during the church ceremony and the drinks reception, while a live band played during the evening. They also opted to have a fireworks display and sparklers. “David chose Elbow’s One Day Like This so he’d know when I arrived and the bridal party walked down the aisle to I’m Kissing You by Des’ree,” says the bride. “Our first dance was to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons’ Can’t Take My Eyes Off You .” MEMORABLE MOMENTS Both Lucy and David were very excited on the day, although the bride was a little anxious about the heavy rain in the morning, however, it cleared up before the ‘I dos’. “I loved putting on my dress and showing my dad and bridesmaids for the first time, only my mum and sister Anna had seen it so the big reveal was really exciting,” shares Lucy. David adds, “I was looking forward to my bride’s arrival and enjoyed watching the ushers and bridesmaids enter the church.” The couple’s friend Jamie, who also runs the boot camp they met at, acted as master of ceremonies, as without him the pair probably wouldn’t be together. “Most guests stayed at a hotel near to the venue. After the wedding a lot of us went to the bar and there was a man with a guitar,” shares Lucy. “The best man asked if he could sing some songs for myself and David and the next thing you know we are three hours in, people are making requests and the guitarist is being bought a lot of drinks!” BEYOND THE BIG DAY The couple enjoyed a romantic mini-moon in Bath, staying at the Royal Crescent Hotel for two nights, before heading off to Kenya in the summer. “We spent three nights on safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve and then eight nights at a luxurious resort in Zanzibar,” shares Lucy. “The safari was incredible and emotional at times. Zanzibar was beautiful with its white sands and blue sky – it was very romantic, we even had a candle-lit dinner on the beach and we did our first dance all over again.” “We had a Bellini bar at our drinks reception as it was the first drink that David brought me. We included mixers, fruits and personalised straws,” – Lucy
