Your London Wedding - May/June 2024 (Issue 95)

Q&A Beauty Look the best version of you with our expert advice LOCKS OF LOVE We’re getting married in the summer, so how can I revitalise my hair after the harsh effects of winter? The cold air can dry your locks and scalp, so now’s a great time to get your hair ready for the warmer months — which also come with hair care challenges! So, get prepared and spring into action with your hair care routine! Book yourself in for a quick trim to remove the split ends and damaged hair caused by the winter. Remember, split ends cannot be repaired they are only disguised by-products. The longer you leave them, the more that will need to be cut off to return your hair to full health. Adding a deep conditioning treatment will help get your mane in the best shape for summer and help it recover from the previous season. A great way to do this is via a steam treatment to hydrate the hair and scalp, replenishing moisture that may have been lost over winter. The steam also promotes blood circulation to the scalp, contributing to healthier hair growth. By opening the hair follicles and pores on the scalp, the steam also helps to remove impurities and buildup from styling products. Apart from this, it’s also a delightful relaxing experience for a bride-to-be. The increase in humidity and the added moisture that comes with spring can cause your hair to frizz. A keratin treatment will help smooth the hair by adding deep moisture to combat this. It can also help reduce split ends by temporarily bonding them back together. By coating the hair and creating a protective layer, keratin treatments make hair easier to style and manage, saving time and effort in spring styling routines. The treatment helps to restore the protein lost in the hair, contributing to healthier and more nourished strands. Aside from the added humidity, spring is a pretty good time for hair. So why not jump on the opportunity to treat yourself to a blow dry? Aside from being a treat, it will also last for a good few days, during which time you won’t be shampooing or using heat tools — so it’s a nice rest for your hair. We’re not at the height of it yet, but we should start experiencing a little more sunlight and start spending more time outside. It’s never too early to protect your hair from UV rays, particularly if you have colour on your hair. A great product to help is Pureology Colour Fanatic Multi-tasking Spray. Brides have been asking for the ‘espresso’ trend with brown tones, or the ‘mob wife’ look which encompases stronger brown hues with a sexy, smoky eye. As bridal make-up is softer, there’s a twist to making it natural rather than too dark and bold. From London Fashion Week, there’s the influence of glass skin. It’s been trending in the make-up industry, and many people have tried to recreate that look. It’s a very artistic style that brides have asked for much more. As make-up artists, we have to find a way to make looks such as glass skin more durable and something that can last throughout the day because dewy make-up tends to be something that comes off quite easily. So, we’re trying to incorporate the trend with bridal techniques to give that effect that will also last. In 2023, many brides wanted the really ‘clean girl’ aesthetic, which is basically a stripped-back look with few colours and very nude eyes. They’ve opted for more natural make-up, which has changed over the years. It used to be about contouring and defined eyes, but people want individual lashes with more natural eyes and bases. Brides are asking for ‘soap brows’ less and less as they don’t want the spikey look in their photos anymore. They still want fluffy brows to a certain extent, but not as dramatic. Also, people don’t want fake eyelashes as much anymore. I’ve definitely noticed an increase in grooms having their make-up done, but only for simple male grooming with powder, concealer, lip seal and that sort of thing. Men before would be slightly embarrassed to ask for it, but now it’s very common. The noughties are known for their very cool tones, matte eyes, and skinnier brows. I don’t know how skinny they’ll go, but the brows are making the shift again. The tones are going a bit cooler, and we’re seeing less bronze, like back in the ‘90s and noughties.
