Your London Wedding - September/October 2023 (Issue 91)

I’m always looking for unique experiences and London never disappoints in this quest! As an avid Harry Potter fan ‒ I’m a true Hufflepuff! ‒ so my stay at the family-run property, Georgian House Hotel, was right up my Diagon Alley; its array of wizard experiences are a must for any fan! SETTING THE SCENE Located in picturesque Pimlico, the 172-year-old Hotel offers a dreamworthy setting, townhouse-chic combined with Victorian character. With individually designed bedrooms that transport guests into a world of magic, we reached our Wizard Chamber via a candlelit passageway lined with portraits (sadly not moving) on the walls. Each step left the contemporary décor behind as we welcomed the mysterious and Gothic interior. With a turn of a key, we entered our chambers to find an abundance of delightful artefacts with cauldrons, trunks, a dragon’s egg, tapestries and archways. Our room could sleep up to six guests with two double beds and a single, perfect for families or hen dos. Our chamber was complete with a large shower and White Company toiletries, which was a lovely touch, as were the robes and slippers that provided extra comfort. The room’s cosy atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowed us to disconnect from the outside world and its muggles fully. For the perfect night in, the complimentary Harry Potter DVDs enlightened the experience; cosy in our four-poster bed, we fully immersed ourselves in the wizarding world with The Goblet of Fire. The provided wizarding currency enables you to spend it on goodies at reception; our chocolate frog, crisps and chocolate went down a treat for movie night! FOOD FOR THOUGHT We revelled in the Potion-Making Experience and Enchanted Afternoon Tea the following day! Just writing this review makes me hungry, thinking back to the fluffy chocolate, cherry, lemon and peanut cakes on offer. The lightning bolt scone with cheddar and pesto was divine, as was the vanilla scone served with strawberry jam and clotted cream. We enjoyed a choux bun filled with sliced smoked salmon with cream cheese and fresh dill, followed by a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich and egg mayonnaise on rye bread with micro herbs. I loved the addition of dry ice for added effect! After enjoying our afternoon tea, it was time to brew some potions with help from the team. With the choice of cocktails or mocktails, we mixed some delicious beverages with candyfloss, goblin goo, syrups and more. Following instructions, we created Beastly Bubble and Pea Flower potions ‒ both tasted amazing! After a peaceful night’s sleep later that evening, we headed to breakfast to enjoy a special menu with wizard dishes. I, of course, opted for the curious apple compote and crushed caramel biscuit pancakes, which I highly recommend! Each mouthful was delicious, with the soft and fluffy pancakes paired with the sour apple and crunchy biscuit. We also tucked into the continental buffet with granola pots, overnight oats, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals, bread and pastries. It’s safe to say we were stuffed! FINAL VERDICT After such a magical stay (pun-intended), we had created fabulous memories at Georgian House Hotel; thanks to the unique experience and attentive staff, who ensured a memorable stay from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble! Perfect for one-of-a-kind hen dos or pre-wedding date nights, there are packages available for bespoke events – you won’t regret it! We can’t wait to come back and revisit the property soon, especially as the location provides the perfect base for the city.
