Q&A Fashion and beauty Look the best version of you with our expert advice LOOK GOOD, FEEL GREAT My big day’s nine months away, so I feel now’s the time to kick-start a healthier lifestyle. What do you suggest would be the best routine for me to get into? The good news is you’ve given yourself plenty of time to get into the best shape. A routine consisting mainly of a well-structured resistance program with a touch of HIIT and steady cardio throughout the week will ensure consistent progress to being wedding-ready. I’d also recommend taking up a class that you enjoy, whether it’s pilates, boxing or yoga. Here’s an example of how to structure your training: Day 1 – 40 minutes of resistance training followed by 15 minutes of HIIT Day 2 – Pilates, boxing, yoga or dance Day 3 – Active rest such as swimming, a long walk or bike ride Day 4 – 40 minutes of resistance training followed by 15 minutes of steady state cardio Day 5 – 40 minutes of steady state cardio Day 6 – 20 minutes of resistance training followed by 20 minutes HIIT and 10 minutes steady cardio At The Lanesborough Club and Spa we’ve recently opened our doors to day guests to experience the new HIIT and Healthy Package, which includes a healthy breakfast, HIIT class, one-hour personal training session with myself, a nutritious lunch, 60-minute spa treatment and day spa access. How can I add the finishing touches to give me the bridal wow-factor? The last thing you put on is the first thing people notice. Many brides now opt for simple dresses and express their personalities through their bridal accessories. Continue to make a striking and dramatic entrance throughout your day by changing your statement-making finishing touches. For example, you could wear a floor sweeping cathedral veil for the ceremony, then change into a regal long cape for the reception, which will also help to protect you from the chilly evening breeze. The most important thing is to have fun experimenting with different looks until you find exactly what you’re looking for! Help? It’s important to be able to enjoy your holidays whilst making sure that your hair still looks amazing. Here are some ways to summer-proof your hair… ♥ Protect your locks – The sun acts like a bleach due to its UVA rays, whilst UVB rays are responsible for breakage. You should protect your hair and scalp against both. I’d recommend applying Biolage Sunsorials Protective Hair Non-Oil. ♥ Detangle after dipping – Pack a detangling spray and apply it every time you’ve taken a dip in the sea or pool before combing (not brushing!) through. This will detangle, smooth and strengthen the hair. Biolage All in One Coconut Infusion Spray is great for this. It’s important to use a comb over a brush because wet hair is more susceptible to damage, and brush bristles can cause tearing. ♥ Condition – Coat your hair in a conditioning treatment and tie it into a bun so it gets to work while you go about your business. Healthy hair will only absorb what it needs, so be careful not to overload. Stick to doing this twice a week after shampooing. ♥ Keep your colour - Colour-fade is amplified during summer. Tap water also contributes because it contains minerals that aren’t great for the hair. This results in dull looking colour. It’s unreasonable to use bottled water each time we wash our hair, so the next best thing is a metal detoxing shampoo and conditioner. L’Oreal’s Matrix Detox range is exceptional. ♥ Fight frizz – Keeping frizz at bay can be a real challenge for the curl community when humidity’s high. Look for products that block out moisture from the atmosphere. I’d recommend Kerastase Discipline Fluidissime Spray that lasts for up to 72 hours. Oribe’s Impermeable Anti Humidity Spray is also fantastic. Neil Moodie | Neil Moodie Studio www.neilmoodiestudio.com 82
