Your London Wedding - November/December 2020 (Issue 74)
Our local pros answer your questions Fashion & beauty Q&A SHINE BRIGHT We’re trying to keep our wedding as eco-friendly as possible, but I’m struggling with what to look for in jewellery? Any ideas? We recommend lab-grown diamonds. These are not dug from the earth, therefore saving our planet’s resources for future generations. In other words, their production helps save the environment, instead of threatening it. Lab diamonds are still real; they are grown from a ‘seed’ by scientists using state-of-the-art technology, which replicates the intense conditions under which diamonds were naturally formed under the earth’s crust millions of years ago. This is why lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical to their mined counterparts. You can now get a large and exciting range of pieces, ranging from stud earrings and tennis bracelets, to diamond pendants and engagement rings. Lab-grown diamonds will never fade, tarnish or grow cloudy, giving you an incredibly hard- wearing sparkling piece of jewellery to treasure forever. Another plus point is that these eco-friendly options are very reasonable if you’re trying to keep budgets down. In terms of size and quality, you can get up to 50% more carats compared to mined diamonds. Whatever you decide to buy for your big day, jewellery should always be a personal choice – go for whatever style speaks to you the most. My top beauty tip, especially for Afro hair, would be to always have a pack of hair pins, a hair band and lip gloss tucked away in your handbag. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can go from simple to chic within minutes. I can’t go without a tamer for my baby hairs. My favourite product right now for edges is the Ultra Hold Styling Wax by Gummy Professional. I also love DIY treatments like rice water for the protein and strength it adds to hair. Plus, it’s great for a quick hydration boost when your locks are feeling limp and getting a bit out of control. What question do you get asked most by brides? I often get asked how long hair extensions need to be to get the Hollywood- wave look we’ve all seen on Pinterest and on the red carpet. This style is achieved with tight curls, so I usually recommend lengths over 24ins and 150% density for full effect – but any length can create this classic style.
