51 Joanna and Joe planned a quintessentially British pub celebration for their guests from both sides of the pond Images courtesy of Jackie King Photographer A PROPER KNEES UP REAL WEDDINGS 51 A fter meeting on a dating app, Joanna and Joe had their first date in that most British of settings: the pub. “I was attracted to his wit and willingness to go with the flow,” Joanna tells us. The fact that he spent New Year’s Eve in fancy dress at a Blitz-themed party definitely made the right impression with her. “He liked my Americanness,” she laughs. “We became inseparable from our first date.” It wasn’t long before Joe was working up the courage to pop the question. “He took me to a little park in Camden,” Joanna says. “He was so nervous and acting a bit off – I thought he was going to dump me!” It was the opposite, in fact, as he asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. “We text all our friends and they joined us in the pub where we had our first date,” Joanna remembers. The pair got planning their perfect day for 8 th November, 2019, with a ceremony at Sacred Heart Church, Wimbledon, followed by a reception at The Trafalgar Arms in Tooting.
