Your London Wedding - Mar/Apr 2020 (Issue 70)

20 A n Indian summer is a term often used to describe a warm, calm spell of weather in autumn. Although the phrase is commonly used in England, it’s said to have been first coined by the Native Americans in the late 18 th century. After a disappointing summer, the belated good weather is always welcome, so it is warmly received. For the purposes of this styled shoot an Indian summer might be considered more of a state of mind, than a forecast. Taking the theme both figuratively and literally, this crack team of suppliers created a stunning scene using a warm colour palette of fuschia pink and ochre and series of Indian motifs. Greenwich’s Trafalgar Tavern was dressed for the occasion with a series of eye-catching mala (traditional Indian garlands), floral displays, ornate lamps and lanterns and tassels-galore. The theme carried right through into the bride and groom’s outfits with the bride’s dress nodding to the theme with voluminous sleeves, a tassel back and mandala detail. And the attention to detail didn’t stop there, even the place holders were dressed with cinnamon sticks (a spice native to India and known for its warmth) while the elegant cake picked up the colour scheme with its tumbling floral design. While we all wait for our first summer to arrive, let us indulge in this preview of the second summer to come…
