Your London Wedding - Sep/Oct 2019 (Issue 67)
Your London Wedding picks the brains of fashionistas across the capital to help you nail your bridal look THE F ROCK ROCK Alice Shreeve and Hannah Coniam, co-founders, Belle & Bunty, belleandbunty.co.uk A lot of brides come to us seeking a beautiful outfit for their wedding but, as they’re having a more relaxed do, they want something with a more casual vibe. Separates are a great way to create that look especially if either the top or bottom half is less structured. A loosely draped backless top with a more tailored skirt or a delicate cami with a billowing chiffon skirt can create a more laid-back feel. A simple belt or satin sash knotted rather than bowed can help tone down your outfit too. A jumpsuit or palazzo pant can be a lovely way of creating a casual look while setting a playful feminine tone. Keeping your accessories pared back and simple is also key. We love long, delicate gold necklaces layered up to dress down a formal outfit. Natural, fresh-faced make-up with peachy soft tones and a slightly undone hair style with some loose waves will always make a dress look less prim. HOW TO… SHOP SUSTAINABLY You’ve got a keep-cup, shampoo bar and you’re trying to cut back on those fast-fashion hauls to boot so naturally, you’ll be thinking about sourcing your wedding dress ethically too. If you’re planning an eco-conscious wedding then there are a number of ways you can cut back the carbon footprint of your big-day outfit. First, shop locally – choosing a boutique you can walk or cycle to is the first step. Then, there’s a host of made-in-London brands to choose from, meaning your dress won’t have travelled far either. And while nearly all brides want something extra-special for their big day, wearability should always be a factor. Can your outfit be modified so it can be worn again after the last of the confetti has been swept up? Last, there’s always the option to pick up a pre-loved or ex-display gown – we love Betty McCaul Bridal Outlet (bettymccaul.com) , which sells ex-sample and discontinued gowns. Charity shops and sample sales can be found throughout the capital; and Brides do Good (bridesdogood.com ) is a London-based website offering a wide range of pre-loved dresses as well as samples from leading designers in sizes 4 to 30. HOW TO… KEEP IT CASUAL The dress CHANTAL KHOUEIRY, FOUNDER OF BRIDES DO GOOD, SHOWS HOW BRIDES WITH A CONSCIENCE CAN HAVE THEIR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO… With its stunning detail, this I’m Heavenly design by Reem Acra chimes with the current embellishment trend. £5,160 at bridesdogood.com Lace is an enduring classic and this boho-inspired look from Allure Bridal is no exception. £900 at bridesdogood.com Minimalism dominated the catwalks this year and this Charlie Brear gown is perfect for a no-fuss bride.
