Your London Wedding - Jul/Aug 2019 (Issue 66)

REAL WEDDINGS 45  B oth students at Northampton University, Aimee and Sam’s relationship started, in their own words, ‘in a haze of nights out and parties’. On graduation, both moved home, Aimee to Bristol and Sam to London and, for four years, enjoyed a long-distance relationship before Aimee joined Sam in London. “We rented a questionable basement flat in Stockwell together,” laughs Aimee. “Turns out that went well, and the rest is history.” Indeed, as Aimee’s 30 th birthday approached, Sam decided it was time to formalise their relationship, taking Aimee by surprise. “Nobody believes me but I absolutely did not see the proposal coming,” she exclaims. “Years ago, I’d mentioned I wanted to be engaged before I was 30 – something I’d long forgotten about. But Sam hadn’t and proposed four days before my birthday. We were staying in a treehouse-type lodge in the mountains of Ella, Sri Lanka, and got up early to watch the sunrise, and the next thing I knew, Sam was on one knee and I was crying. It was very romantic.” With friends and family across the country, the couple opted to tie the knot in London. “We had no idea what type of wedding we wanted, we’d never discussed it before and it all seemed pretty daunting,” Aimee admits. Having looked at barns and warehouses and rejecting both on the grounds that the planning would have been overwhelming, the couple stumbled across Morden Hall. “It’s a two-minute walk from the end of the Northern line, set in beautiful grounds and has a lovely stately home feel without the dark interiors and loud carpets that you’d usually associate with older venues,” explains Aimee. “Ultimately what swung it for us was the menu choices, the food was incredible and we’ve had so many compliments on how delicious everything was.” The couple chose a blush pink palette to complement Morden Hall’s A meal to remember clinched the venue choice for Aimee and Sam Images courtesy of Olegs Samsonovs GOOD TIMES
