Made up of interlocking galleries, the paintings on display are grouped according to ‘schools’ or reginal styles, hung alongside furniture from when the Gallery was first opened in 1817. Ceremonies take place in the Soane Gallery and Linbury Room. The former, surrounded by an impressive collection of Old Master paintings, accommodates up to 150 guests while the latter – a contemporary and versatile space with sleek white walls – seats some 110 friends and family. Receptions can be held in either or, alternatively, the Gallery Café is available for smaller parties of 50 loved ones or large groups can pitch a marquee in the Gallery Gardens or Meadow.
