MEET THE ENTERTAINERS We quizzed London’s best acts on the capital’s top entertainment JONO BLYTHE, CLOSE-UP MAGICIAN Jono Blythe has been a magician for more than 15 years. He started practicing close-up magic as a hobby from a very young age, after watching Paul Daniels on the television. On graduating from university, he decided to become a professional magician and he now performs at weddings, parties and restaurants. What’s your favourite area of London? Greenwich; I enjoy the ‘old town’ feel and the atmosphere. And your go-to restaurant? The Archduke on the Southbank. It’s a Jazz club so the music is great and you can’t go wrong with the nachos there. What are you watching right now? The last Netflix series I binged was Black Mirror . I’m a sucker for anthology series such as Twilight Zone .  What do you love about your job? The best part of the role is meeting people. I travel all over the country with my magic and I meet different people from different areas. Which venue strikes a chord? As a theatre graduate, my favourite London wedding venue has to be The Globe. It’s a stunning building and the ideal backdrop for anyone who loves drama.  Tell us a little about your act… Usually I’ll step in after the meal as the guests are unwinding over dessert and wine. I’ll always coordinate with the caterer to work out the ideal time, though. In general, I’ll perform for about two to three hours – although my act can be adapted to work with each couple’s plans – in the past it’s been as short as 20 minutes or as long as four hours. Having studied music at school, she went on to study at Guildhall. Sahara is the first female string group to incorporate a saxophone in to the traditional format and the group’s goal is to change the way classical music is perceived. What’s your favourite area of London? I love the South Bank; the area is so vibrant – there’s always something happening and it’s beautiful too. What was the last show you caught? I went to Follies at the National Theatre last week, which was fantastic – a really captivating show. What’s your favourite London wedding venue and why ? I absolutely love the space at The Dorchester Hotel, it’s so elegant. Describe a typical day… Usually, I’ll go to the gym first thing and we rehearse in the afternoon before an evening event. I love performing – seeing the crowd having a great time is the highlight of my day. What part of a typical big day is your act best suited to? We love performing at receptions when everyone is ready to party but, equally, we can provide romantic music to accompany the ceremony or wedding breakfast.
