Your Kent Wedding - March/April 2021 (Issue 95)
I enjoy baking so I made heart-shaped, iced biscuit favours stamped with our guests’ names. The only issue was discovering the night before that one had melted and one had broken, and there was no way I was giving someone a broken heart! So, there I was at midnight the night before the wedding, frantically remaking a couple of biscuits, which definitely wasn’t planned. Harpist Carys Hughes played during our ceremony and welcome drinks. She’s very talented and sounded amazing. She played a range of older and more modern songs, which we were able to choose from her extensive repertoire. We chose bridesmaids’ dresses that all three of my adult bride tribe liked the style of, and we were able to order the exact shade of purple we wanted. We were also able to order similar dresses for our three eldest nieces and it was important to us to have them be part of the bridal party. Rob and his best man wore tails, while the groomsmen wore traditional three-piece blue suits. Rob also had an ivory waistcoat, whereas the other men wore blue. I wasn’t sure what style of dress I wanted initially, and tried on a lot. I liked the trumpet silhouette of my gown, and the embellishments and buttons on the back were gorgeous – despite being a pain for my mum to do up in the morning! I also loved the fact that I could hook up the skirt for dancing in the evening. We also had fans, flip flops and pashminas for our guests, almost all of which were used throughout the day, as were the glow sticks, colour books and bubbles for the children. 48
