Your Kent Wedding -November/December 2020 (Issue 93)

Ruth is a self-confessed make-up junkie. She trained in London and has more than 10 years experience as an MUA. Despite initially training for her own benefit, it wasn’t long after qualifying that she was being asked to do make-up for friends’ wedding days. RUTH ASHCROFT Ruth Ashcroft - MUA @RA.MUA What’s your signature bridal look? I tend to work with brides who wish to achieve a classic, natural and fresh look. A client once described me as offering, “Something that’s complementary to each individual with flattering results.” I’m also happy to work with brides who want a dramatic or themed look, as I’m open to pushing boundaries with my make-up. I’ll always tailor the style so that it works perfectly for them. If you could impart just one piece of advice to brides everywhere, what would it be? If you don’t have a good skincare routine in place already, start one that’s suitable for your skin type as soon as possible. You’ll be investing in yourself and helping me to get the best out of the make-up I use on your special day. If you face particular challenges with your skin I’d advise you to talk to a dermatologist, as they could save you making mistakes that will mean it takes longer to reach its potential. Tell us your top trend tips for 2021. I believe it’ll be all about the skin, which will be more natural and healthy-looking, using extra coverage only where required coupled with translucent foundation. Soft blush tones of pinks and peaches will be the accents of colour used to enhance the eyes, and brows will be a lot softer. Lipsticks are changing from matte to a soft, creamy texture. What product can’t you live without in your kit? I’d have to say it would be MAC Pro Longwear Fluidline Gel Liner in Blacktrack. It’s never let me down and doesn’t smudge or transfer as much as some other products I’ve used. www.fleurchallisphotography.com FENEL LA ST JOHN www.fenellastjohn.com @fenstjmakeup Fenella began her career in theatre where she loved the hair, make-up, wigs and costumes so much that she couldn’t wait to train professionally. Fifteen years and many qualifications later, she’s now a make-up artist for TV, corporate clients and of course, beautiful brides www.emilytylerphotography.com What’s your signature bridal look? For me, it has to be a natural radiant make-up, which is elegant and tailored just for you, to bring out your best features. I love, love, LOVE skin so I spend lots of time perfecting it before applying any make-up to help it really glow and look stunning. If you could impart just one piece of advice to brides everywhere, what would it be? Drink lots of water every day and look after your skin. Don’t use face wipes and always cleanse and moisturise morning and night. Tell us your top trend tips for 2021. Make the face shine in all the right places such as at the top of your cheekbones and on your brow bone with a hint of highlighter so the skin looks clean and captures the light beautifully. To create a perfectly bronzed and naturally contoured complexion, focus below the cheekbones and along the temples, always ensuring you blend well until you can’t see any make-up lines. Natural pinks and earthy tones on the eyes, cheeks and lips are also a lovely way to make the skin look fresh and bright, finishing off your make-up look. What product can’t you live without in your kit? There are so many products I love, but at the moment, I can’t live without the Charlotte Tilbury Stars in Your Eyes Eyeshadow Palette and Benefit Posietint Cheek & Lip Stain. BRIDAL BEAUTY 113
