63 REGIONAL SHOOT T his utterly fabulous Viking-themed shoot started life as a modest project involving photographer Molly Parr and model Josh Aylward, who share an interest in this period of history. Molly explains, “I’d always wanted to be part of a Viking-inspired shoot, so as a new photographer branching out into the wedding industry, I decided to venture out in search of like-minded wedding suppliers looking for a creative challenge.” Four days later, she’d assembled an enthusiastic Kent-based team and had arranged a venue. “The whole thing was planned and completed within just 14 days,” she says. The popular television series Vikings provided plenty of inspiration for everything from hair and make-up, to dress designs. Plus, each supplier carried out their own independent research, coming up with ways to put a relevant twist on their area of expertise. It wasn’t long before they were able to produce a mood board and base colour palette, but, Molly says, “Giving everyone creative freedom was the most important aspect of this project, as was having a lot of fun.” The vision was to create traditionally accurate Viking inspiration for couples looking for alternative ceremony and décor ideas, without going too over the top. The team took their lead from nature using lots of foliage and boho elements. The Oak Grove is a handfasting venue, so this was the natural choice for their ceremony depiction. Molly explains, “Handfasting is a growing trend, which symbolises the binding together and connection of two people by tying their hands with specially made rope or ribbons.” We love how the images feel light and ethereal earlier on, slowly moving towards a slightly more edgy feel as the day wears on. Molly remembers, “The entire day was spent laughing and working in harmony together, knowing that every single person had worked hard to make their own ideas a reality, while enjoying the surrounding atmosphere of creativity.” The passion certainly shows.
