LITTLE ANGELS Help! Many of our friends have young children. We’d love them all to come and enjoy our wedding day without our reception descending into chaos. What can we do? Weddings can be a long, tiring and overwhelming experience for everyone, especially young people. So, it’s important to set up a safe space for guests under 10 years where they can let off steam. This also gives their parents or guardians time to enjoy the wonder of your special day with you. Why not let a crèche company look after the childcare at your wedding? All that’s needed is an adequate child-safe room or space – they’ll carry out a risk assessment ahead of the day. You’ll find your worries are lifted with the extra pair of hands provided to keep the little ones out of mischief, and let them burn off that energy right alongside your wedding’s proceedings. How would we get around that when it comes to our photos? You can’t control the weather, but you can plan for it. For example, I approach every wedding with “plan A – the perfect scenario,” and “plan B – the worst case scenario.” In plan B, where the weather is less than ideal, I will have made sure that I’ve scouted the venue, making notes on the alternative locations and features. Your photographer should make sure that you’re comfortable having photos taken outdoors as well as indoors. I’ll always make sure that I have two sets of umbrellas with me – two transparent and two white. These can be used as quirky props. If shooting outdoors really isn’t possible, there will be features of your venue that can serve as inspiration for some wonderful interior photos utilising characterful doorways, windows and staircases. How can we create a day that’s different and reflects our personalities? The best way to achieve this is not to be influenced by those around you. A wedding is an exciting time and everyone and their sister wants to get involved, but auntie’s idea of a perfect wedding day is sure to be different from yours. I always ask my couples at the very beginning of their journey to list a few things they both love, then work out how to incorporate them into their day. So what if these little personal touches don’t fit in with the overall theme? The biggest theme at your wedding is you! The little things you enjoy together, the little jokes you share, and the geek culture you enjoy – that’s what makes you work as a pair. Make your day about celebrating you as a couple, and how you fell in love. Try not to drown yourself in Pinterest boards that only show the colour scheme you have in mind.
