Your Kent Wedding - Jul/Aug 2019 (Issue 85)
THE SHOW MUST GO ON Meet the crème de la crème of Kent’s wedding entertainers ELEGANT MAGIC, NEIL EDWARDS What can you bring to a wedding day? As a close-up magician, I act as gift from you to make sure each guest feels like a VIP by adding fun and interactive entertainment. This brings together strangers, filling the drinks reception and the wedding breakfast with laughter, applause and gasps of astonishment. I also offer M.C. duties, a short mind reading show before the speeches, a Mr & Mrs-style gameshow during the room turnaround and a magician’s eye view video keepsake. What inspired you to become a magician? At the age of 19, I was diagnosed with cancer, which led to a series of hospital stays. During this time, a friend bought me a kids’ magic set as a joke. What started out as a bit of a laugh quickly became an obsession that aided my recovery and resulted in me meeting my wife. What’s your proudest achievement? Making the performance of magic my full-time career and business. I have the honour of attending some of the most important days of people’s lives, bringing more happy memories to everyone there. Our sound can be described as a crossover between alternative pop, folk and contemporary classical, which makes our original songs vibrant and exciting to listen to. What’s your proudest achievement? We’ve performed for many well-known people, but for us, it was recording our first original album. It was an interesting journey and helped us to develop and grow as musicians. What’s your favourite piece to play at a wedding? To play on the harps, it would have to be Tom Odell’s Grow Old With Me . The lyrics are so magical and perfect for the day. We also love to sing Grace by Lewis Capaldi. It’s really important for us to stay current; we like to learn new and modern pieces for our repertoire. A solo saxophone performance is classy, fun and goes a long way towards creating that no-expenses-spared feel without overloading the budget. I can perform a huge variety of music, including pop, jazz, blues, swing, rock ’n’ roll and can even create an Ibizan summer vibe with a range of classic club and house tunes. I’ll also take special requests if you’d like a song that I don’t already play. What part of the day is your act most suited to? My performances are ideal for your wedding ceremony, as light entertainment for your drinks reception and as background music for your wedding breakfast. I have packages that include one, two or all three of these. I can also play in the evening alongside the DJ or with one of my three live bands! Tell us about your favourite gig you’ve played. I get just as much enjoyment out of playing at a small wedding as I do at a festival to thousands of people. I suppose my favourite gigs are the ones where I’m there all day and evening, as it really gives me the chance to get to know the guests and build a rapport with my audience.
