Your Kent Wedding - July/Aug 2024 (Issue 115)

A TOUCH OF COLOUR I’ve chosen quite a plain dress and would love to add a bit of sparkle through my accessories. Do you have any ideas? The neckline of your dress will determine what accessories you choose; if the neckline is high, asymmetrical or halter neck, then you want to avoid a necklace and wear some gorgeous earrings, such as hoop earrings with pearls or crystals. If the neckline is strapless, boat, or off-the-shoulder, you can add in a gorgeous necklace and earring set. I recommend a moonstone or quartz necklace, as they add a lovely sparkle without being over the top. Kerry Clayton www.melizabeth.co.uk A DREAMY LOOK What beauty products would you recommend for my wedding make-up? Firstly, congratulations on your engagement. I always ask my brides to provide me with two recent photos of themselves where they feel good. It’s a great reference to see a person’s style and what level of make-up they feel best in. In addition to this, a few inspiration photos gathered on Pinterest are also helpful to get an idea of your desired look. Look out for make-up you admire on people with similar colouring and characteristics as you. This helps to avoid feeling disappointed if you don’t closley resemble your images! Your make-up artist should be able to go through colours, tones and textures that will look best on you. Bring photos of any dresses, shoes, jewels, or accessories you have so far! It’s really lovely to see how the look will come together and necklines and accessories can hugely affect how your hair and make-up come together. Think about your skincare. Try not to change your routine too much before your trial or use too many active ingredients, such as retinol; this could result in shortterm redness, irritation and breakouts. Talk to your make-up artist about a skincare plan and products that will help your skin during the trial. I always advise booking your first trial as soon as you can, giving lots of time to get a timeline for skin prep and hair care. Organising a second trial a month or so before your big day can be hugely beneficial to evaluate any skin changes, such as a tan. It’s also nice for calming nerves and feeling organised! Lastly, don’t be afraid to speak up in your trial! This is your day and your makeup artist won’t be precious about it. They should be approachable and happy to try lots of looks. It’s easy to wipe away after all! Most of all, enjoy it, bend your artist’s ear, get loads of advice about make-up for your honeymoon and hen do and collect tips for the future you!
