Your Kent Wedding - November/December 2023 (Issue 111)

Fear of the unknown can become overwhelming when planning a wedding. After all, it’s not something you do every day! So, we’ve decided to remove that for you when it comes to one of the most important elements of your day – the photography. Here, some of Kent’s finest wedding photographers, tell us what to expect from the moment you set out on your planning journey to the time you spend putting your album together. BEFORE THE BIG DAY FINDING THE ONE “Finding the right photographer is super tough” says Cassandra Wright (www.cassandrawrightphoto.co.uk). “Research your venue, look at photographers who’ve worked there before, shortlist them, view their recent portfolios, and trust your instincts.” David King (https://davidkingphotographer.co.uk) also suggests starting with your venue: “Usually you’d book the venue first, then the challenge of finding the right photographer begins. Most venues will have a recommended supplier list with their favourite collaborators, which is a good place to start followed by a Google search.” Aside from venue endorsements, wedding photographers can also come to you from friends and family recommendations. Florence Berry (https://florenceberry.com) says, “I find myself doing full circles of friendship groups and various family member wedding days. So ask around, see what your loved ones have to say. Otherwise, there’s so many ways of finding us: visit wedding fairs at your venue and locally, read blogs and search online, once you’ve fallen in love with somebody’s work, you’ll know!” Of course, you need to love what they do, but just as important is finding someone you can click with (pun intended!). “I think one of the most important things right from the onset is your relationship with your photographer,” says Nicola Tulip of Nicky’s Photography (https://nphotography.co.uk). “It may sound silly, but do you like them? Are you going to get on all day and feel comfortable around them while experiencing some of the most important moments of your life? A meeting or even a casual chat to a see if you gel is a must for sure. A wedding show is great way to chat to lots and see if there are any that you click with.” STYLE IT OUT If you thought a photo was a photo, we’ve got news for you! “Styles of wedding photography can differ so much,” says Nicola. So, it’s certainly worth looking around to get an idea of what you like. She continues, “It’s worth bearing in mind that some styles can be a sign of the times when it comes to certain filters and effects.
