A PASSION FOR FASHION Different designers will offer different cuts. Just because one dress and jacket didn’t suit you in one shop, doesn’t mean you should rule the style out entirely. The difference of just one inch in the length of a jacket could be the difference between it hitting you in the exact right places. Likewise, don’t rule something out on the hanger. We have to repeat this so many times because, in our experience, not every outfit has hanger appeal. We’ve lost count of the times that a mum has happily left our shop with her perfect outfit that she had dismissed entirely when we first showed her. Please let us introduce some wild cards for you to try – you don’t have anything to lose! Special occasion wear tends to fit very differently to high street clothing, which is usually a more relaxed fit. We’re not used to wearing very structured or tailored outfits in our day to day lives. A large proportion of women do find that they have to go up around one to two sizes in occasion wear. But please, don’t get het up about the size as no one will see the label. You’re still you and are the same shape as when you walked through our door. Anneliese Ward | Chameleon | www.chameleonbride.co.uk BEST DRESSED Having dressed thousands of mothers for nearly 30 years, we get asked many questions. Here’s our top advice to help... ❤ We always advise clients to start looking for their perfect attire six months in advance, as we begin to receive our latest styles from late December through to April for the summer season. ❤ We place our orders six to eight months in advance before the cut off point. Once the orders are placed, the designers then create all the pieces before starting the following season. ❤ We only work on an appointment basis here at Charisma, so one of our dedicated personal shoppers will be able to assist you during your one-hour time slot. We’re very friendly and are used to all shapes and sizes. When you’re shopping, the consultant should listen to your requirements and dress you accordingly. They’ll probably make suggestions that you would not necessarily have thought of. ❤ We advise starting your search early as this gives you the best option of finding the outfit you love in your size. The later you leave your search, the less options you’ll have. Knowing what colours the suits and bridesmaids’ dresses are will help you choose the right shade for your outfit. Think about what colours suit you best. If you’re unsure, then have a colour analysis from the likes of House Of Colour – it will transform the way you wear clothes. Don’t forget the other mother too. Why not go for lunch with together and talk about outfits? Choose a dress suitable for the venue. With so many different settings, you’ll need to choose a outfit that suits the location. Many mothers now select a great dress instead of the traditional dress and bolero look. Comfort is key, so choose what makes you feel a million dollars. There’s no better way to search for the perfect look than online. Browsing websites gives you a good idea of what styles and colours are available that season. Steve Taylor | Fab Frocks www.fabfrocks.co.uk Luis Civit www.thecoutureclub.com ACCESSORISE AND SHINE I often get clients asking if I can make a headpiece to match an outfit. However, I do get clients looking to buy a bespoke piece before finding their outfit, which is always a big no-no. Always get your attire first, and then think about the style of headwear you’d like. Then get a bespoke piece to match your outfit, which is far easier. There are plenty of milliners who could make that special piece within your budget; visit my website for some inspiration.
