The timberframed structure facing St Michael’s Square was constructed in the late 15th century, while the adjacent King John’s Palace, a Norman house accessible from the Tudor House Garden, dates back an additional 300 years. Couples can say “I do” in the enchanting Georgian Room, which overlooks the beautiful Tudor Knot Garden. After the ceremony, guests can gather in the atmospheric 16th-century wood-panelled Banqueting Hall for delightful drinks receptions. The garden offers the perfect setting to capture cherished memories against the stunning backdrop of King John’s Palace. This remarkable stone building, rich in more than a thousand years of history, is available to hire for wedding receptions, making it an extraordinary venue. While the outdoor setting is delightful, there’s also the option to hire a marquee for added comfort. The Georgian Room is believed to have originated in the 17th century, with significant renovations in the 18th century, and is one of the larger spaces in the Tudor House. Its bright and airy atmosphere makes it a sought-after ceremony venue, accommodating up to 35 guests in rows or 12 to 20 with tables. This charming space is accessible via stairs or a lift, ensuring all guests can join in the celebrations. Meanwhile, the Banqueting Hall, with its oak-panelled walls, creates a unique and atmospheric backdrop for ceremonies or receptions. Featuring a large Tudor fireplace and a minstrel’s gallery, this space can host up to 35 people for ceremonies, 20 for receptions or 40 guests standing. King John’s Place offers an outdoor venue with a twist, hosting 60 guests and is suitable for a variety of events. Electricity is available for a marquee, enhancing the event experience.
