Q&A Beauty Look the best version of you with our expert advice www.gettyimages.co.uk THE MANE EVENT What hairstyle will give me a timeless look for my winter manor house wedding? Winter weddings are perfect for incorporating beautiful silk or velvet ribbons and headbands. Whether you’re all for the up-do or more comfortable with your hair down, create a timeless look by keeping the styling minimal. Think a big bouncy blow dry finished with a padded headband or a pile-high bun tied with a bow. Keep your style simple and let your face, personality and dress do the talking. To achieve the perfect look, avoid too fussy or complicated styles. Finish with a shine spray to add richness to the hair and smooth down any flyaways. Winter can be harsh on your skin, especially your face. Protecting and nourishing the skin as much as possible during winter is best, so less ‘repairing’ is needed. When it comes to skin prep, hydration is key! Drinking lots of water has huge benefits to your skin all year round. As the seasons change, so should your skincare. Use a nourishing oil-based moisturiser to create a protective layer while keeping your face hydrated for longer. A favourite of mine is Weleda Skin Food. Ensure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen all year round. It’s best to avoid hot baths/showers as this can break down the lipid barriers in the skin, which can lead to a loss of moisture – a lukewarm face wash is best. If your budget allows, have a few hydra-facials with a specialist in the run-up to your wedding. The benefits are endless and will leave the skin looking so dreamy. Your make-up is essential to your bridal vision and will feature in the gorgeous images you’ll look back on when reminiscing about your special day – so it should be well-considered! Bridal trials are the perfect opportunity to meet with your make-up artist to ensure you share the same vision and they can create the look you’re after while checking they’re experienced with your skin type and tone. As an artist, a trial is a lovely time to meet my brides and sometimes her best girls to hear more about the plans, how the couples met and all the other lovely details! Often, it’s also a perfect moment to discuss skincare routines, false lashes and any other topics they may feel unsure about. I also prepare a detailed product card for brides to take home with them once the look is complete, which I keep a record of to best understand my clients’ skin. It also shows what products we used to recreate looks easily on their special day. During a trial, we also finalise details of on-the-day arrangements to squash some admin together.
