Your Herts and Beds Wedding - December 2020/January 2021 (Issue 83)

Bem casados are a traditional Brazilian treat. According to the tradition, you have to offer each guest a bem casado so they can each be blessed with that same luck and happiness. Some say that guests can make a wish before taking the first bite. They are two pieces of light sponge cake brought together with a silky condensed milk filling (doce de leite) which represents two parts united by sweet love, support and mutual respect. Bassmead wasn’t the first venue we visited but was definitely the last. It has a beautiful setting and great food, conveniently not too far from where we live. The centrepieces were decorated jam jars using the same fabric and twine from the invites and place names. I love rustic style! As I couldn’t decide on a colour theme for the wedding, I decided to have all of them together. The local florist (Stephanie Rose) prepared a mix of seasonal flowers in a delicate shade. We broke with the norm and went chocolate cake – it looked and taste fantastic, everyone said so! The table names were place important to us, and the settings were made from fabric and twine. 44
