Your Herts and Beds Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 81)
TIERS OF JOY We have a tight budget for our wedding but still want a beautiful cake. What would you suggest? Budgeting for your wedding is a delicate balance for all couples. As newlyweds, you’re the centrepiece – with all eyes on you! Your first traditional joint task is to cut your cake, a wedding treat full of memories! Cake designers will always work with your budget, but here are a few tips to consider. ❤ Don’t assume everyone likes cake, consider catering for 80 per cent of your guests. ❤ Cut your cake and have stunning pictures taken before the wedding breakfast. Slices can be served as your wedding breakfast dessert cutting down on the cost of the meal. ❤ Pick stunning sparkly tier, flowers (fresh, silk or sugar) or a splash of colour to reflect your colour theme and add that wow factor. ❤ The more intricate the design, decoration and handmade elements, the higher the cost will be. ❤ Consider a dessert table with a smaller tiered cake, beautifully decorated biscuits (favours for your guests) and maybe some cupcakes! ❤ A cutting cake hidden in the kitchen provides additional portions minus elaborate decoration. ❤ Lemon, chocolate and vanilla sponges are delicious, and although fruit cake is more expensive, it’s a smaller portion which allows for better costs. A wedding planner will help cure that feeling of being overwhelmed as we can take on any of the more difficult tasks. Divide and conquer is how I work, so you get to keep doing the bits that give you the most joy, and I do the dull, hard and more tedious bits, and it doesn’t just have to be the admin. Just think of us as your fairy godmother, the friend you can rely on whatever the task – we don’t have to cost the earth either. Don’t be afraid to have stationery that breaks from the norm; you don’t have to have lovely pastel colours and flowers – if you want bright and bold colours, just go for it. Why not have a tropical, geometric, nautical, polka dot, vintage, art deco, or even a superhero theme? There are some fantastic elements that can be added to your stationery to make it stand out, such as foiling, laser pattern cutting, personalised wax seals, embossing and debossing – the possibilities are limitless. Beautiful stationery can set the tone for your wedding, any on the day stationery such as table plans and menus can be a fantastic part of your wedding décor and a great way to start creating a theme for the venue.
