Your Herts and Beds Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 81)
81 EXPERT ADVICE AUTUMNAL BEAUTY I can’t wait for my autumnal wedding and would love a make-up look to reflect this. What would you suggest? Autumn is a beautiful time of year to get married and is undoubtedly becoming one of the most popular seasons for my brides. If you’d like your make-up to reflect the beautiful season, I’d certainly suggest using warm neutral shades and nothing too dark or wintery. Try a softly blended smoky eye using natural tones, complemented by a blush lip and a subtle contour or hint of colour on the apples of your cheeks. The change of season from summer to autumn means toning down the dewy highlighter and thinking about more of a matte finish. Alternatively, if you’re not comfortable wearing much eye make-up, try adding some length to your lashes by wearing some falsies; there are some really pretty natural options out there that will help frame your eyes. You can then focus on more of a statement lip. Take the colour up a notch and sweep your lips with a shade of red or pink that carries an undertone of brown – this will keep your look seasonal. The key is to avoid caked-on colour with harsh lines; make sure the blend is soft, and the shades are neutral and timeless. What would you suggest? Breakage from heat damage is quite a common problem; it’s caused by over styling with blow-drying on a high heat and overusing appliances like straighteners and curling irons. The breakage is caused by the outer layer (known as the cuticle) developing cracks that create weakness in the hair, causing the hair to snap. Recovering hair from heat damage can take anything up to a few months, and the most effective way to solve this issue would be to have a good haircut! However, if this is not an option, there’s some ways to help your hair. ❤ It sounds obvious, but reduce the temperature on your appliances and try to reduce the time you use them. ❤ Use heat protection sprays before styling. ❤ Stop towel drying as this can cause further damage. ❤ Try weekly hair conditioning treatments, my most favourite is natural coconut oil – Lucy Bee is my go-to as it’s the most natural product you can put on your hair. Use a teaspoon on wet or dry hair (more if your hair is thick) and leave for up to 30 minutes. Emma Horsley | Emma Kim Hairdressing www.emmakimhairdressing.com www.nata liestevensonphotography.com
