Your Herts & Beds Wedding - October/November 2019 (Issue 76)

The venue was relaxed, warm and welcoming. I wanted somewhere with an outdoor vibe that could host the ceremony and reception – nothing was a problem for the staff, they were great. Alisteir wore a pale blue, three-piece French Connection suit from Moss Bros and a red Day of the Dead tie featuring skulls and flowers. I wore a hair chain that was pinned either side of my bun. It was beautiful and complemented the style of my dress. I bought my dress before we’d even booked the venue. I loved the vintage style and wanted to be comfortable and feel confident and gorgeous, and I did.  J ennifer and Alisteir both work in the NHS and met on the intensive care unit. “I thought he was really sexy and spent ages flirting with him,” says Jennifer. “We were discussing our dating failures and he suggested we go on a first date to critique each other’s approach to see where we were going wrong,” she says. That date obviously worked out swimmingly as marriage was written in the stars. It was during a holiday in Prague with Jennifer’s mum and Alisteir’s son that he proposed. “I was in my pyjamas one morning. I went to the loo and when I came back there was a white box on the table and Alisteir was sitting there not saying anything,” she says. “I asked what it was and he shrugged his shoulders. I opened the box, saw the ring and started shaking and crying and my mum looked at me with a huge grin on her face. There were lots of tears and hugs followed by sleepless nights spent thinking about what had happened and looking at my ring.” Their day followed a Day of the Dead theme – a celebration of life and loved ones. “We work in a hospital and know that life’s too short so celebrate it and those around you while you can.” Here she tells us more about their vibrant day… Jennifer’s top tip: Let the groom be a part of the organising and decision-making. It’s his day too; let him have his personality in it.  54
