Your Herts & Beds Wedding - October/November 2019 (Issue 76)

REAL WEDDINGS 39  E mma and Rob were part of a big friendship group at school and it was during their A-levels that they shared several classes and got to know each other better. “We were cast as husband and wife in our school’s Christmas production when we were in year 13 and it was then that I developed feelings for Rob,” says Emma. “I loved how he made me laugh.” Rob made it official and asked Emma to be his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day 2007 when he turned up at her house with a bunch of flowers and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. Ten happy years later, he asked another important question. A GOOD READ Emma’s a teacher and it was her first day of the summer holidays. She was starting at a new school in September and getting a promotion so the last day of term had been an emotional one for her. “Rob took the day off and we went to Basildon Park. He picked that place because it’s where some of Pride and Prejudice had been filmed and he knew I love literature,” says Emma. After looking round the house, they went into the gardens and Rob asked to stop at a bench under a tree, claiming to have a blister. “He gave me a book and on each page he’d written a romantic quote from some of my favourite films, books and songs. There was a hole cut into one of the pages and inside it was an engagement ring,” she says. “I just cried and asked if it was really happening. Rob then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.”  SOMETHING SPECIAL Emma wore a Bree corset by Wtoo and Amora skirt by Willowby and completed her look with a Richard Designs crystal-edged veil. “I had no idea what style I wanted, but as soon as I went to Heritage Brides I fell in love with Sam who runs it and she made trying on dresses an even better experience than I’d imagined. She suggested going with separates. I hadn’t been to a wedding where the bride had worn an outfit like that before so I knew it would be something special,” she says. Emma’s custom headpiece complemented her flowers and featured a red rose in the centre with orange roses either side. “I wore a pearl necklace that belonged to my grandmother. When she passed away a few years ago the necklace was one of the items that I got from her. It was special to have my something old from someone who’d been such an important part of my life.” Rob and his groomsmen wore dark grey suits with wine-coloured textured ties and brown brogues and Rob accessorised with a gold pocket watch that Emma gave him as a wedding gift. “Our bridesmaids looked stunning in floor-length dresses that were accessorised with gold block-heel shoes and a necklace featuring a gold autumn leaf and a pearl that I gave them as a present that morning,” says Emma. GRAND SETTING With Emma being a history teacher, Wrest Park ticked all the boxes when it came to finding a venue with a story to be told. “It was our first choice and when we went to visit we were blown away by the stunning gardens and Emma Field, married Robert Dawson-Goodey, both 29, at Wrest Park on 28 th October, 2018.
