Do your research, follow their social media accounts and take a look at their portfolios. I always recommend a pre-wedding shoot to help you get to know your photographer. – Becky Harley View galleries at similar venues at the same time of year. It’s easy to shoot without flash in late June but try working without flash in a castle in late November! I’ve mastered the art of on and off camera flash for this very reason, so I can deliver galleries with confidence throughout the year. – Rafe Meet with a few photographers who’s style you like. You’ll get an instinctive feel if they’re the right fit once you’ve met them. – Becky Kerr WHAT TO TELL YOUR PRO Your photographer will probably ask you to complete a questionnaire that’ll give them a clear idea of what’s happening and when so they can manage the time and plan when to do key shots. – Becky Harley Show them examples of work that you like the look of and mood boards of your ideas over a coffee. – Andreas I meet with my couples to find out more about them and to run through their plans. I also ask for contact names of all the key people involved in the day. – Rafe WHEN TO BOOK Book as soon as you’ve confirmed your venue and date. I frequently book up a year or two in advance for the popular summer dates. – Becky Harley If you don’t have much time don’t worry. I’d recommend booking four to six months in advance. – Andreas Despite everyone thinking midweek weddings are common these days, Saturdays are still overwhelmingly the most popular. If you’re getting married in summer 2020 and haven’t started looking at photographers yet, do so soon! – Rafe I’d advise to book the venue and put a deposit down on your photographer as soon as you’ve made a decision – you don’t want to be disappointed. – Becky Kerr Top tips… beckyharleyphotography.co.uk beckykerrphotography.co.uk beckyharleyphotography.co.uk beckyharleyphotography.co.uk beckykerrphotography.co.uk
