Your Herts and Beds Wedding - April/May 2025 (Issue 109)

PICTURE-PERFECT IMAGES Spring weddings have a unique charm that sets them apart. With longer daylight hours, warmer temperatures, blossoming flowers, and vibrant spring bulbs, they create a stunning and uplifting atmosphere filled with colour and joy. Whenever you’re getting married, one of the big issues that can play on couples’ minds is the weather, especially if you’re planning an outdoor ceremony or much of your day will be outdoors, the weather can be hugely influential. If there’s one thing that’s certain about the British weather, it’s the unpredictability. March winds and April showers can come at any time of year, so contingency plans are always a good idea. There’s no need to dwell on it, but if you have a backup plan, you can relax and enjoy your day, knowing that even if the rain does come, it won’t dampen your spirits. I love the drama of a downpour of rain or a gust of wind. It can give your photos an extra something, especially if everyone’s embracing it and having fun. Jo Quint | Quintessential Photography www.quintessentialphotography.co.uk BLOOMING BEAUTIFUL Spring is such a beautiful time to get married, and our advice would always be to take full advantage of what’s happening around you in nature. Embrace seasonal blooms such as peonies, ranunculus, poppies and orlaya, as these can be sustainably sourced from UK growers. Nothing looks quite as spectacular as fresh, seasonal flowers grown close to your wedding venue. Similarly, design a colour palette that incorporates a little of your surroundings. For example, opt for green that chimes with the outdoors and brings a little of the outside in. Lavender hues are synonymous with spring and can be incorporated with alliums and irises, both in season. Pastels look incredible at spring weddings, as do more muted palettes of whites and creams, which add a sense of freshness after a long winter spent indoors. Plus, as outdoorfocused wedding planners, it’s when our season formally commences. There’s so much inspiration to leverage from nature in springtime. Let seasonal flowers take the lead in your design, and don’t be afraid to incorporate what might be viewed as simple blooms. Tulips come in many elevated varieties and colours, anemones offer delicate elegance, and lilac smells absolutely divine. Cloud-like masses of ammi majus (often better known as cow parsley) are extremely striking and romantic. The even better news is that using seasonal British-grown stems is both sustainable and helps your flower budget go further. The weather is increasingly on our side in spring, so you’ll likely be able to spend a proportion of your day outside. Even if it isn’t forecast to be classically ‘hot’ on the big day, the sun will have more strength than you realise, so make sure you pop some SPF on your face, décolleté, and shoulders an hour before getting into your gown. If you’re having a marquee wedding, remember that warm days still lead to chilly evenings, so ask your structure supplier to supply a heater to keep you and your guests cosy through the night.
