Your Herts and Beds Wedding - June/July 2024 (Issue 104)

REAL WEDDINGS 35 comments, “It had all the elements I wanted; it was off-the-shoulder, A-line, chiffon fabric and stunning bodice details. As the dress had a lot of detail, I wanted to keep the accessories simple. I had a singletier veil, a pair of earrings and a couple of hairpins to complement the dress. I felt like a bride and wished I could look like that daily.” Mat looked dapper in a three-piece suit. Initially, he wanted green attire but couldn’t find a suit with the cut, shade of green and material he wanted. He found a great blue suit instead. The best men and two ushers wore the same and there was a mini version for the page boy. The bride comments, “My nerves disappeared when I saw Mat waiting for me. I was happy to see him and wanted to talk to him about my morning.” The three flowergirls wore light dusky blue dresses; the top half had sequins with a subtle sparkle, while the bridesmaid wore a dusky blue floor-length gown. TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple had a singer who played the guitar for two hours after the ceremony and a magician to entertain guests throughout dinner and during the reception for evening guests. They also hired a DJ who was also a master of ceremonies. In addition to playing great music throughout the day, he played a game where everyone was given cards to write wedding advice for the pair and provided a photo booth. The lovebirds also ended up having sparklers in the evening, as well as marshmallows to toast over the outdoor firepit. Everyone enjoyed the day, but the magician went down particularly well and the sweet table was almost empty! Hannah says, “The whole day felt special! It was nice having all our family and friends in the same room. All the suppliers put in so much effort, and we definitely had the best of the best! Most of them had worked together or knew each other, so it seemed like they were having fun! HONEYMOON The couple had a mini-moon in Edinburgh for three nights after the special day before their main honeymoon in Barbados six months after the wedding. They stayed for 14 nights and enjoyed spending time together, being their usual silly selves. They spend some days chilling out and some days exploring the island. The bride says, “Being in the ocean was a highlight. We went snorkelling together, and afterwards, Mat decided to do his PADI (diving) course. We both saw amazing creatures, including turtles—a friendly one swam around me—sting rays, an octopus, and various fish.
