A newly launched wedding and events venue in the heart of historic Salisbury. The Wardrobe is a secret hideaway located to the rear of the Rifleman’s Museum. It is situated in the tranquil setting of the cathedral close and the wonderful garden leads down to the banks of the river Avon. With the rolling countryside beyond, it is difficult to imagine a better location within the Salisbury city limits for any outdoor event, be it a wedding reception, celebration or garden party. The walled garden is totally enclosed and private covering over half an acre. It also has numerous specimen trees including one of the finest copper beach trees in Wiltshire. The walled garden can be privately hired for your wedding, party or event. A marquee will be positioned in the beautiful garden (your choice of style) and we can accommodate up to 150 guests. For smaller numbers a reduced sized marquee is available. The on-site caterer is the award-winning Vanilla Catering & Events. Vanilla’s key ethics are attention to customer service and the use of top quality local ingredients. These result in bright, modern food styles presented with attention to detail in an unfussy yet friendly manner. A bespoke menu is created for each client and a complimentary wedding planner is provided to run your special day. An interesting fact: did you know why we are we called The Wardrobe? The original building on the site was constructed in 1254. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and was used to store the robes of the Bishop of Salisbury; hence it was known as the “Bishop’s Wardrobe” or “The Wardrobe”! IN OTHER NEWS FROM WHATLEY MANOR... Whatley Manor is a five-star country house hotel located in the Cotswolds that prides itself on its beautiful gardens and sustainable horticulture as well as its locally sourced Michelin-star cuisine. The hotel is inviting guests to switch off and absorb the green haven during their visit. Located near Malmesbury in the charming Cotswolds. The hotel is situated in 12 acres of beautifully kept grounds, organised into 12 individually designed garden rooms, including an abundant kitchen garden which provides for the Michelin-starred restaurant, The Dining Room. Based on the original 1920s plans of the grounds, the gardens were designed by renowned British architect, Septimus Warwick, who favoured the Arts and Crafts style. Today, the hotel’s custodians have a passion for ecological horticulture and make a special effort to restore the gardens as closely as possible to their origins. Highlights include an elegant and tranquil walled Rose Garden, which envelopes guests in a scent as vibrant as the colourful flowers, and the tropical-inspired Hot Garden with shades of vibrant red and burnt orange. The Stable Courtyard’s neatly manicured lawn proudly displays three bronze donkeys, sculptured by renowned European sculptor Edouard-Marcel Sandoz, the hotel owner’s great-grandfather. Whatley Manor’s outstanding reputation for sustainability is truly reflected in its gardens, such as the no-dig kitchen garden, reducing how much the soil is broken in between crops to avoid soil erosion and reduce emissions and weeds, resulting in a higher yield of quality crops, fewer pests and subsequent elimination of artificial pesticides. The importance of the gardens is felt throughout each guest’s stay at Whatley Manor, from the unmissable 12-course tasting menu in The Dining Room to the Sothys Seasonal Garden Spa Experience at Aquarias Spa, a 1-hour 45-minute treatment consisting of a full-body massage and facial incorporating home-grown ingredients. Guests hoping to explore even more greenery can visit Westonbirt, The National Arboretum which is only a half-hour drive away from Whatley Manor and bares one of the world’s most beautiful and significant plant collections. Rates start from £379 per night including breakfast and use of the spa. Steeped in history Rich and Tim’s wedding enjoyed the backdrop of Berkeley Castle. It was decorated in pastel colours and featured Australian and British native flowers Images courtesy of Ian Baker Photography Richard (Rich) Harmer and Tim Seears married on 21st May 2022 at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire. Tim and Rich are both from London and unknowingly lived one road away from each other for years before coincidentally moving to Australia around the same time. “We first met in Sydney in 2018 when a mutual friend, Mandeep, thought we would get along and asked if we’d like to be introduced,” Tim tells us. “Rich agreed to come on a weekend away to Avalon Beach with me, Mandeep and a couple of friends so this was the first time that we met. I was the designated driver and offered to pick Rich up. He later told me that as soon as he got into the car and saw me, he thought that I was handsome!” Rich adds, “The first evening during our trip away, I told Tim that I was taking him on a date and not taking no for an answer! His response was ‘yes’ so we went to a painting class together later that same week, and the rest, as they say, is history.” After looking at engagement rings together a few months earlier, Tim proposed to Rich nine months into their relationship at the Henrietta Hotel in Covent Garden, London when they were back in the UK to attend a family wedding. “The proposal took place just as I was waking up from a jet-lagged sleep!” Rich tells us, “I thought that Tim was acting a bit strange on the flight when I tried to put a book inside his bag but he wouldn’t let him anywhere near it - little did I know that the ring was inside!” REAL WEDDINGS 21

SETTING THE SCENE Berkeley Castle was the first (and last) venue that the couple viewed. “We just knew the moment that we stepped into the Great Hall that it would be the fairytale backdrop to our special day,” they tell us. “It’s steeped in history, full of beautiful artefacts and boasts ancient stained-glass windows. Berkeley Castle has it all – while being grand and impressive, it still felt intimate and able to host a fun celebration. A big part of our decision to book the venue was the amazing wedding planner and manager, Pippa, who was lovely and put us at ease from the moment we first reached out - nothing was too much trouble and she made executing the perfect day look easy.” Rich and Tim chose to walk up the driveway to the venue handin-hand instead of being driven, as a symbol of equality, and care for the environment. “During our ceremony, the registrar got our names the wrong way round just as we were saying our vows and then quickly realised her mistake, which amused our loved ones!” they tell us. “It helped with our nerves, that’s for sure! The ceremony felt magical, there was a deep feeling of love from everybody who attended supporting and celebrating our relationship - neither of us have ever felt anything like it before. The coming together of our family and friends from across the world after the separation of lockdown was also extremely emotional and satisfying.” The wedding enjoyed a pastel colour theme. The table plan and table names were made using frosted-glass signage with white hand-drawn script lettering which provided a contemporary twist in the traditional setting. “Our place names were written on rusticstyle textured white card using an elegant font in black ink,” the couple describe. “We also placed a printed menu complete with wine pairings at each place setting, using the same elegant font. We named the tables after our top twelve favourite places from our travels together around the world.” For their flowers, the couple wanted an emphasis on sustainability over traditional floristry and the theme of bringing the outdoor forest inside the castle. “We had potted trees lining the ceremony aisle and down the sides of the dining hall mixed with ferns, wildflowers, and plenty of candles in glass lanterns which gave the Great Hall a magical, fairytale feel,” they tell us. “For our centrepieces, we wanted a rustic and country-inspired look, so, together with our florist and design team, we came up with a bespoke look consisting of wooden round tables, mix-and-match cut glassware, gold cutlery and small bohemian vases filled with pretty bunches of wildflower varieties from England and Australia. These were complemented by potted succulents which can be reused, rather than traditional large statement centrepieces, and allowed our guests to be able to chat over the low-level displays.” Rich and Tim’s cake featured Australian native flowers and King Protea all made from sugar paste. “It was a five-tier showstopper with grey marble frosting,” they tell us. “The flavours were chocolate ganache, white chocolate and raspberry.” LOOKING THE PART Rich and Tim wore matching silk-trimmed tuxedos from Giorgio Armani formalwear with Tim in black and Rich in navy. These were complemented by classic black patent leather Armani shoes, white wing collar dress shirts and bow ties, plus a pair of Tiffany & Co. cufflinks each which were a wedding gift from Rich’s dad. “Instead of having bridesmaids and groomsmen, we had a wedding party each, consisting of a best woman and two best men each, and we allowed the two wedding parties to wear outfits of their choosing,” they tell us. TIME TO ENTERTAIN Throughout their ceremony, drinks reception, and wedding breakfast, the couple had a live string quartet playing, firstly in the upper gallery at the top of the Great Hall and then in the pavilion by the lily pond “The hard work of our team of suppliers who made our special day a reality was much appreciated. We had an idea of how we wanted it to look and they made it happen.” – Rich and Tim 23 REAL WEDDINGS

For the evening party, we had an 11-piece live band perform who were brilliant – our guests said they felt they were at a live concert rather than a wedding and one year on from our special day, our loved ones are still talking about how good the band were! The two male and one female vocalist were up on the tables at one point performing, and at other times out on the floor among the crowd, and the dancefloor was packed all night. We couldn’t have imagined more fun if we tried! After the live band, we had a DJ.” Rich and Tim also had a photo booth equipped with costumes and props set up in a retro caravan in the castle’s courtyard. Their guests were able to leave copies of their Polaroid snaps in the guestbook along with a message for the newlyweds. “Everybody said they loved the photo booth because it allowed them to take home a keepsake from the day,” the couple says. “We also had a reproduction classic American food truck in the courtyard serving Mexican food throughout the evening disco, provided by our wedding caterers Napier Catering.” 24
