The latest news from both counties NEW £2 MILLION WEDDING AND EVENTS VENUE TO LAUNCH IN THE COTSWOLDS A new £2 million state-of-the-art events and wedding venue is to launch in the Cotswolds. Midlands-based property development and investment company The Wigley Group has formed a joint venture with leading National Hunt racehorse trainer Ben Pauling to establish The Naunton Downs Estate at his base near Cheltenham. The company has planning consent for the 5,000 sq ft barn which will cater for exclusive weddings, family celebrations, and corporate and racing events and is planning to start construction in 2023 with completion scheduled for the second half of 2024. Pauling moved to a new state-of-the-art yard last April after buying the 200-acre site which also includes a golf course and a dining, entertainment and artisan retail venue. The joint venture will also invest around £300,000 in upgrading the existing venue – which is currently also home to the Fitzdares Club – and golfing facilities. Pauling, who moved his operations to Naunton in Gloucestershire from Bourton Hill Farm last year, said: “We are really excited to move this forward and to have formed the new partnership with The Wigley Group. They are a company we have got to know very well and they are very much embedded in the racing world as well as having a track record of commercially successful developments. “Purchasing Naunton Downs and creating the new yard was a real game changer for us as a racing business but the site has much more potential. We are in a great location in the heart of an area of outstanding natural beauty yet easily accessible from London and close to Cheltenham. Daisy and Rhys met through a mutual friend who set them up. “Rhys was working in Stratford-Upon-Avon managing a bar and I was home on my summer holiday from university,” Daisy tells us. “I met my friend in the bar for a drink and that was Rhys’ cue to come over and serve us our drinks! He listened intently to my conversation, laughing at the right moments and never once taking his eyes off me! He later told our friend that I was one of the most beautiful, bubbly women he had met and he needed my number. I liked the fact that he was assertive and direct. Needless to say, I spent the rest of my summer in the bar!” Rhys proposed at the Roman Baths in Bath Spa on 2nd October 2020. “It was a complete surprise because I never dreamt that Rhys would propose in such a public place and I was under the illusion we were on the way to Bournemouth to visit his father,” Daisy explains. “After walking around the Roman Baths, Rhys asked an attendant to take photos of us posing with the cathedral, Bath Abbey in the background. He then got down on one knee and surprised me – we have a series of beautiful photos that captured the moment!” After the proposal, the couple went to The Hare and Hound pub where Daisy’s parents and her best friend were waiting to surprise her with balloons, cake and champagne. “Without “Our photographer, Gemma was truly amazing – she went above and beyond, from helping me get into my dress in the morning, to securing my veil back on at the church.
