K atie and Charlie met when they were both studying chemistry at the University of Strathclyde Glasgow. “The first time we saw one another was in a laboratory during a practical class,” Katie tells us. “We didn’t talk until the fourth year when we did a placement abroad and both ended up working and living in the Netherlands. We were friends for a while before we started dating and visited different places together, always having plenty of fun. Our personalities clicked and we made each other laugh,” she says. “I was attracted to Charlie’s confidence and he liked my smile and laugh.” The couple became engaged during a festive proposal which happened to be on Katie’s parents’ 25 th wedding anniversary. “We hadn’t spent Christmas Day together so decided to celebrate a few days later,” Katie explains. “We cooked a three-course dinner and I asked Charlie to help me with some gravy but he refused! I thought it was a bit strange and it turns out that he didn’t want to get out of the chair because he was hiding my engagement ring. He proposed at the end of the meal which was a wonderful surprise and I was in shock!” SETTING THE SCENE The couple had planned on getting married abroad in a small, intimate celebration in Lombok, Indonesia. “We had booked the flights and venue and “Thank you to all of our wonderful guests, and suppliers who, despite the ever-changing plans and uncertainty until just a few days before our wedding, were so accommodating and helped pull everything together on the day.” - Katie and Charlie “My uncle drove me to the register office in his Range Rover and then transported both of us from the register office to the hotel.” - Katie MICRO WEDDING SPECIAL 35
