Our statement three-tier cake featured a different flavour on each layer. There was a red velvet cake, a lemon and blueberry flavoured tier and a mouth-watering chocolate layer. The middle tier was decorated with silver sparkle and the cake featured a fabulous topper! I chose to have flowers that are sentimental to me in my bridal bouquet. They included freesias in memory of my nan and lily of the valley which is my mum’s favourite. We decorated our reception with giant silve r balloons spelling ‘Love’ and ‘Mr & Mrs’. They provi ded the wow-factor and filled big spaces without to o much expense. We also had illuminated LOVE le tters displayed next to the dancefloor which looked fantast ic. We placed a quiz with questions about us as a couple on each table to get our guests talking. We announced the winners after cutting the cake later in the day and they were presented with medals! Our centrepieces were statement floral arrangements of hydrangeas and roses which are my favourites. They were arranged in tall vases to suit the high ceilings in the venue and they were surrounded by scented candles and tea lights in silver holders. We also filled the venue with plenty of scented candles which smelt great and created a romantic feel. “We’re both really into our food and were over the moon with the exceptional dishes on the day. The canapés included mini toad in the hole and cheeseburgers along with fish and chips in cones which were snapped up quickly! Our starters included ham hock terrine with piccalilli puree and toasted brioche and the main choices were shallot and mushroom wellington or roast beef served with goose fat potatoes and all the trimmings. To finish, the trio of mini desserts including a summer fruit cheesecake, lemon posset and marshmallow chocolate brownie topped with caramel sauce was delicious.” – Karen and Symon My bridesmaid wore a sage green pleated dress.
