Your Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Wedding- October/November 2020 (Issue 23)

Our venue offered plenty of space and gave us the versatility to arrange lots of the different elements ourselves. We decorated it with bunting first used at James’s sister’s wedding, and brightly coloured flowers that she and James’s mum had grown which looked beautiful as table centrepieces and displayed around the venue. It was a real team effort! We decorated the ceremony area with flowers lining the aisle and colourful lanterns suspended from the ceiling – it looked fantastic! We gave our guests real floral confetti to throw. The Barn at Upcote was the first and only venue we visited. Even though it was a wet April evening when we viewed it, the peace and quiet really stood out for us and we felt very at home there. We loved the beauty of the area and the simplicity of the venue. We struggled with the idea of choosing a theme and didn’t want to restrict ourselves to just one or two colours (I would never have been able to choose!) Instead, we found a bright, colourful wildflower invitation design that set the tone. Alongside the flowers grown by our family, we enlisted the help of a local florist who encouraged us to choose the brightest combinations of pink and red, and yellow and orange. Top tip: “Hire a videographer! This was a last- minute decision for us but we are so glad that we did. You think you’ll remember everything, but you don’t, and there are bits that you miss that even the photographs don’t show. It’s amazing being able to look back and re-live the day all over again.” - Gabby and James 40
