Your Glos and Wilts Wedding - October/November 2019 (Issue 17)

82 Q&A Beauty Our experts solve your problems GET THE GLOW Please can you give me some make-up tips for my winter wedding? Roxie says: I love the idea of winter weddings and the ability to use warm make-up colours, but with the colder months affecting our complexions, this season can have drawbacks when it comes to our skin. I recommend a couple of steps before and after your make-up application to ensure it lasts all day and night: Prep your skin Our skin can feel dryer during the winter, so it’s really important to keep it hydrated. Start with exfoliating and moisturising regularly during the weeks leading up to your wedding to enhance your complexion. Good skincare is the key to great-looking make-up. Using a hydrating primer as a base for your foundation can help prevent dry and flaky skin and stop it being absorbed, giving the colour more lasting power, as well as enhancing your natural glow. Set your make-up One of the most important steps to long-lasting make-up is by setting it. Use a hydrating setting spray because they leave a more natural and dewy finish. If you find that you get oily skin throughout the day, use a dusting of lightweight powder on the T-zone and centre of the face to absorb it. A setting spray is also a great product to use intermittently throughout your wedding day to give your make-up a little refresh. GO NATURAL I am looking for some natural remedies that will work well for my skin and body – can you help? Heather says: It’s important to start using new products or remedies, however natural, a couple of months before your wedding and not the night before the big day in case of any adverse reactions to the ingredients. I would recommend choosing a soap-free cleanser, either unscented or naturally scented, because these are a lot kinder to your skin and less likely to strip it of essential oils. Make sure that you pat your skin dry, and don’t scrub it because this can damage the top layer and cause flakiness. For your body, add a few drops of essential oil to your bath – it will help you relax as well as keep your skin soft. Here are some natural products that you can make at home: ❤ Avocado and olive oil – squash an avocado and mix with a sprinkle of olive oil for a moisturising face mask. ❤ Mix oatmeal with honey and a splash of warm water to gently exfoliate the skin, or leave it on for 15 minutes as a soothing mask. ❤ Mix sugar with a little olive oil to create an exfoliating scrub.
