Your East Midlands Wedding - April/May 2020 (Issue 37)
We went for quite a difficult cake design; we wanted a marbled effect with burgundy breaking out from a predominantly white cake. The florist would then add a little foliage on the top and the gold leaf touches really made for a fabulous feature. For catering we used the venue’s recommended provider, Portfolio Events. Our logic was the company knew the venue and the ovens, and that familiarity would result in excellent food – we were proven right and it tasted excellent! Being a Leicester City fan, I had to get a football touch in somewhere! Luckily, I was allowed to name the tables after some of Leicester City’s 2016 title winning team. Even sadder, I put them in formation in the conservatory, so the head table was Schmeichel, the two defenders either side, ending with the Vardy table furthest away. Ysanne wore a beautiful ivory dress with peach flowers and shoes that tied up around the ankle with a beautiful ribbon. In addition, a lace cardigan was added which matched beautifully. We had a wonderful pianist who came highly recommended, he played a lovely mix of classical, film themes, musical classics and Christmas songs throughout the day. In the evening we had Mansfield Avenue, a well-known band from Leicester, which blew us away! The first dance was a cover of my favourite song Everything by Lifehouse, which was beautifully sung. We danced the evening away to 90s to early 2000s classics before ending with a DJ set to see the night out. 47 I wore a Ted Baker Blue Endurance suit, which was complemented with a burgundy tie purchased from Hawes and Curtis in London. I stood out from the groomsmen by wearing an ivory pocket square. The bridesmaid or ‘best woman’ as she liked to be called, wore an elegant full-length blue dress with a lace finish across the chest.
