We went to Edinburgh for our honeymoon. We had planned to go several times in the previous few years but had to keep postponing our trip, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to go and see the city. We also intend to go to Japan at some point in the next few years. We had secret dance lessons in the months before the wedding from Stephanie Prior School of Dancing and had only told our photographer and the venue manager! When we stepped out onto the dancefloor for our first dance, we intentionally opened with the usual side-to-side ‘plodding’ two-step. When the song kicked in, Toby twirled me and brought me into a hold to start our dance. No one expected us to do this, which led to much whooping and cheering! The stand-out moment for us was the dip at the end of the dance, which made for a fantastic photo opportunity. To keep our guests entertained, we had a live three-piece band. They were excellent and played a variety of genres and floor fillers. It was a hit with our loved ones and everyone was up on their feet dancing all evening. My dad’s speech included a card ‘written’ by our cat, Nutmeg, apologising for not being able to make it and wishing us well, which got a good laugh from everyone. Toby’s uncle wrote a poem about us in the style of poet Benjamin Zephaniah, which was excellent and involved some audience participation. I wore a white A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline from Heart Brides. I choose the design for the large, embossed flower lace all over the gown, which I later found out was very similar to my gran’s wedding dress from over 60 years ago. Toby opted for a tailored check suit from Moss, with a light blue tie and pocket square that mirrored the bridesmaids’ dresses. We wanted his look to match the country feel of the wedding while retaining a modern look. 40
