Your East Anglian Wedding - October/November 2024 (Issue 69)

THE GREAT OUTDOORS We’re having an autumn wedding and are thinking of getting married outside. What should we take into consideration before committing to a venue? Having your wedding outside can make for a wonderful day and a beautiful setting for the ceremony; however, as we all know, the British weather is not the most reliable no matter the time of year. So when committing to a venue, always have a backup plan in mind. What would happen if the weather was not appropriate for having an outside ceremony? Can the venue hold the same number of guests inside their venue as they can outside? Would you need to hire anything in case the weather is not great, such as blankets, umbrellas, a marquee or a cover? And at what point in the planning would the decision be made to whether you are inside or outside, e.g., a day before or on the morning of the wedding? Your venue will do whatever they can to make sure your wedding takes place outside; however, your registrars, celebrants, musicians and florists will also need to be included in the thought process of being inside or outside. If you have plans for any aspect of the catering to be outside, such as a barbecue or food truck also having a backup plan for that, can staff take it to your guests or cook inside instead? Create both plan A and plan B to fit your dream wedding so that no matter the weather, you have the perfect day planned. To add a special touch to your wedding, you need to think outside the box. Once you have decided on the venue, flowers, food and outfits, stand back and think, how can I really elevate my wedding to the next level and do it in a cost-effective and eco-friendly way? Our suggestion is to hire large trees such as bays and olives. At Posh Plants, we will deliver your chosen trees the day before the wedding and collect the day after. We will position them on instructions from you and they can be used indoors and/or outside. Sue Huckle www.poshplants.com A MOMENT TO REMEMBER How can a celebrant make our ceremony extra special? A wedding celebrant should be there for you, from when you have your wedding date up to the day you say your vows in front of all your loved ones. They should support you, write your love story, attend rehearsals at the venue of your choice, advise on suppliers to use, and then of course officiate the ceremony. Your ceremony will be extra special because of all the care given to make you feel relaxed, confident and happy, to laugh and maybe even shed a tear or two! The best part? The ceremony can be held anywhere you wish, whether it’s a field, garden or a posh hotel and it can be at any time of the day. It is all up to you! Before booking, check if your celebrant can perform any rituals you may want, such as handfasting, lighting candles, a sand ceremony, or even jumping the broom! Kate White www.hitchedwithkate.com 64
