Choosing the perfect entertainment for your big day can be stressful. Trying to find something that suits your budget, keeps your friends and family happy, and also fits the vibe of your day can feel impossible, but don’t panic! There is a supplier out there for everyone, from bands, DJs, live painters, singing waiters and much more! For my own wedding, I booked an agency that provides hundreds of bands across the UK. My husband and I spent hours going through the acts within our budget, and we eventually chose a local band that we loved. On the night, they played two sets with a DJ in between, and our guests loved them. It was definitely one of the highlights of our day. If you’re struggling to decide on an act, contact several companies and see which one you vibe with. Before booking, read the company’s reviews and check out their price guide to make sure you can afford their services. Think about what you both love and what will get your guests dancing and talking about your wedding for years to come. To help you plan the perfect entertainment, we’ve put together a feature highlighting some of East Anglia’s best wedding companies. Happy planning! A timeless Gemma and Adrian opted for a blush pink and green colour scheme for their wedding day at Woodhall Manor Images courtesy of Neil Baxter Photography Gemma and Adrian were instantly attracted to each other. “We have a lot in common, with many of the same interests,” says Gemma. “I liked Adrian because he always had something interesting to talk about. He was also nicely dressed on dates and always made an effort.” For Gemma, the proposal was a complete surprise. “After having dinner at a restaurant in Brantôme, France, Adrian and I walked to the end of a bridge where we’d often go get ice cream when we went on holiday there,” shares the bride. “He asked me to be his wife and it was wonderful.” Read on to see some of Gemma’s favourite moments from their big day... WEDDING REAL WEDDINGS 29

My aunt made personalised napkins for our guests, name cards and menus with everyone’s individual choices on. Woodhall Manor was gorgeous and had plenty of space for our guests. The rooms and the grounds were immaculate! We really enjoyed the venue’s menu tasting day, where we tried some of the courses, pre-drinks and wine. The venue manager, Lorraine, and wedding coordinator, Beth, were incredibly helpful and we couldn’t have done it without them! We also really liked that the venue had a separate bar and dancefloor to separate the night and day. Everyone really enjoyed it there and we still talk about it now! For our flowers, we chose an assortment of white and pink blooms from Susettes Flowers. Our centrepieces were white flowers in a mixture of tall and short vases with sequin tablecloths. For our food, we gave our guests a choice of mushroom fricassee, ham hock terrine, or sweet potato and chilli soup to start. Beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes and vegetables; pan-fried chicken with potato gratin and vegetables; or onion tart were the options for the main. For dessert, there was a choice of honeycomb cheesecake, a lemon tart and chocolate pave, or a chocolate brownie. Cake By Louise made our five-tiered pink, white and green bake which was decorated with flowers and gold leaf. 30

My wedding dress was called Kayleigh by Sophia Tolli. Crown Joolz Bridal Showroom recommended the dress to me and I liked the fit and sequin elements. I felt very comfortable and glamorous all day! I accessorised with a bracelet that Adrian gave me. Everyone told us that the day flies by and it really does. A special moment for us was when all of our guests had gone in for dinner, and we went into the venue’s grounds to have some more photos taken. The string quartet had finished doing their set, but they carried on to play for us while we were having our photos taken. It was really nice for us to take a breather and have a moment for ourselves. I will always be grateful to them for that. The whole day was amazing from start to finish. We were a bit nervous for the day to go well and for everyone to enjoy what we had organised, but everything went perfectly. The food in particular was fantastic and one of our favourite parts of the day. Woodhall Manor provided paella with some Spanish tapas-style sides for the evening. It was delicious and our friends and family loved it. To keep our guests entertained, we had the Scintillo String Quartet play during the ceremony and drinks reception. Magician Sean Goodman performed after dinner, and in the evening, 24 Karat kept everyone on the dancefloor. We also had a glitter bar from Face ‘n’ Glitz and The Selfie Roamer photo booth, which managed to capture everyone enjoying themselves. This was a massive hit with all the guests and we got some fantastic photos and boomerang shots. Adrian chose dark grey pinstripe trousers, a grey waistcoat and a dark green tie. The groomsmen wore the same but with different ties. For our honeymoon, we went to Venice and Bologna for two weeks. We really enjoyed spending time together, eating some fantastic food and relaxing in the sunshine. REAL WEDDINGS 31

BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE Chloe and John had a festive celebration at St Mary’s Church and Hintlesham Hall Hotel Images courtesy of Pengelly Photography 34

Chloe and John first laid eyes on each other at work. “Chloe complemented my car one morning as we were arriving to work,” says John. “We spoke briefly and I rushed into work, not fully embracing her comment. We then met again during a work party. I set my eyes on her and thought she was lovely, but that I had no chance – not in my league! That turned out to be a false assumption and in summer 2016, we started exchanging messages and we went from there!” John proposed on Christmas Eve. “We were warm and cosy at home by the Christmas tree,” shares the groom. “I think I surprised her by getting down on one knee and asking her to be my wife.” SETTING THE SCENE “I worked at Hintlesham Hall Hotel for nine years overseeing weddings,” explains John. “We looked at several venues, but once we visited Hintlesham Hall Hotel, we agreed it had to be there. It’s a stunning, majestic location and I don’t think you can do any better. Tracy at the Hintlesham Hall Hotel gave us a tour of the beautiful hall and discussed all the highlights and what to expect to make our day as perfect as it was. We cannot thank Tracy, Yuriy, Jade and John enough for looking after us and all our guests for helping us have the best day of our lives!” For their favours, the couple created baubles containing Temple Spa products and chocolates. “We included lots of gold glitter dust and sequin stars, which we’re still finding at home,” recalls the groom. “We also had our table plan custom made by my sister Josephine, who is an artist. It featured locations that are very special to us. “To continue our festive theme, we decorated the tables with gold candelabra provided by Extravorganza,” adds the groom. “Kaye Souter Flowers provided our big-day blooms, which were beautifully arranged winter flowers. To finish the look, Hintlesham Hall Hotel had festive decorations, which we loved. Especially the Christmas trees!” To keep their guests well fed, Chloe and John chose a three-tiered gold cake with festive flowers created by Kate’s Treats. DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I wore an Italian three-piece suit in a neutral tweed with a fresh white cufflink shirt,” says John. “I accessorised with a gold tie with flying ducks on it, tan brogues, pheasant socks and my dad’s old pocket watch. “Chloe chose a dress from The Wedding Shop,” adds the groom. “No words can justify the exquisite beauty of this outstanding, jaw-dropping showstopper! The bridesmaids opted for long, gold dresses. They all looked superb with their classic Oscar-winning appearance.” TIME TO CELEBRATE “To keep our guests entertained, we had a choir in the church assembled by people I knew and their voices were beautiful,” shares John. “We also had the Oakwood String Quartet perform in the church. They created a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere for our guests, particularly at the hotel, while we were having our pictures taken around the beautiful Georgian house. We then had a pianist, whom I have known for years. Peter was very kind and open to our requests. He played some of our favourite music beautifully. Tabitha Debenham, my exceptionally talented friend, sang Dream a Little Dream of Me once the speeches had finished. She blew everyone’s socks off and also asked us to join in to sing the last verse. 35 REAL WEDDINGS

“In the evening, we had a band called The Bears perform,” continues John. “Everyone loved these very talented guys! They learned our first dance song, Joyride by Roxette, and the atmosphere they created with their musical talent was outstanding! We wanted live music played consistently throughout the whole day and we achieved our goal! It’s not a wedding without some side-splitting snaps of your friends and family piling into a photo booth together wearing props, so we also hired a booth from the wonderful Strictly Photobooth.” MEMORABLE MOMENTS “On the day, we felt excited, nervous and thrilled,” shares John. “We felt extremely satisfied with all that we had organised and achieved and so very much in love. There were plenty of hilarious moments, especially the speeches! All our guests loved the speeches! Our friends and family who attended our wedding have shared some very wholesome and treasured memories with us since. “We have to say the biggest thank you to the best people in our lives, our amazing, kind, generous and thoughtful parents,” explains the groom. “We couldn’t love you more if we tried! Our sincere gratitude, thanks and appreciation to Jeffrey, Georgina and Ann. Our bridesmaids and ushers were amazing and we have to thank them for their continuous support throughout our amazing day. Teamwork makes the dream work!” Chloe’s brother-in-law, Ben, was the couple’s toastmaster. “Ben had been a toastmaster before at Chloe’s sister’s wedding back in 2018,” recalls John. “The entertaining announcements and exploding of a gold glitter cannon were amazing! Alex Hurt wrote and read the most beautiful speech about us, how we met and our life together. My mother and Elaine Horne, a very talented lady and close family friend, wrote their own version of the famous The Owl and the Pussy-Cat by Edward Lear that was tweaked to us perfectly! Not to mention all the other perfect elements of our day, such as the time of year, the Christmas touches, the decorations, the fairylights and the spectacular table plan art.” HONEYMOON “For our honeymoon, we’re going to Bali for 10 days,” reveals John. “Chloe has been amazing at planning this. We are going to Ubud first, where we will be going on trips to see waterfalls, temples, an elephant sanctuary and Nusa Penida. To finish, we are going to the Gili Islands, where we’ll see turtles, have spa treatments and relax on the beach!” 37 REAL WEDDINGS
