Q&A Hair and beauty Top tips for autumn brides GET THE LOOK Award-winning make-up artist Emma Burgess of Norfolk-based Brunetti Artistry shares her expert know-how to help you recreate bride Sylwia Dominika Kras’ soft seasonal look (pictured), using soft pink autumnal tones. ♥ Preparation is key and I always say great make-up starts with great skincare and products like UpCircle’s Moisturiser. For me their Coffee and Maple Eye Cream is a must on the wedding morning to brighten the under-eye area and reduce the appearance of dark circles. ♥ Next, I applied e.l.f Face Primer followed by their Flawless Finish Foundation which was airbrushed on for a perfect finish. ♥ Set with KVD Translucent Powder which is light and easy to use to fix any foundation and combat unwanted shine. ♥ Follow with a sweep of bronzer from the KVD Contour Palette. ♥ For the eyes I opted for the Lois Cosmetics Rose Metal Palette as it has such a beautiful range of colours. I used the nude tone One&Only all over the lid as the base and blended it up towards the brow bone. I then applied pale rose Cherish all over the lid with a small amount of deep pink Fall For You on the outer corner blending it out towards the centre. For a touch of shimmer, I spritzed the lids with All Nighter Setting Spray by Urban Decay and wet my eyeshadow brush before dipping it into the palette’s Evelyn shade to create a creamy texture. I swept this from the inner corner of the lid out towards the centre, blending the two outer shades into one another. ♥ Finish with a slick of Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. Not only waterproof, it also has a triple black pigment for the most intense lashes ever. ♥ For the lips I used KVD Lip Liner and Lipstick both in Lovecraft. ♥ Finish with a misting of the All Nighter Setting Spray. Sharron says: I’ve found wedding hair this year has been either very soft and natural or big and glamorous. Styles with a lot of texture remain popular too. The autumn brides I’ve done trials for so far certainly seem to be following these key trends. Autumn brings some lovely gold, yellow, red and copper tones which are great to work with. Wedding hair can look amazing with flowers or accessories in these shades to finish off a seasonal look. You could even have some warm autumnal highlights or a hair colour to complement the time of year. To keep your locks in good condition and avoid the dreaded frizz if the weather’s damp on the big day, make sure to have regular trims beforehand to get rid of dry ends. Prep your hair well in the run-up to the wedding. Use shampoo and conditioners that fight frizz and block humidity; oil-based hair serum on the ends can also help tame damaged and frizzy hair. Emily says: Skin prep should begin a good three to six months before the big day, so if you haven’t already got a routine, now is the time to start. Firstly, you need to establish what kind of complexion you have; is your T-zone dry or oily? Finding the right cleanser to suit you is always the best place to start. I use and recommend Charlotte Tilbury Cleanse, Hydrate & GlowSpa Duo with a hot cloth, followed by a serum if you wish. Moisturising is also massively important and the market for products is huge. I use Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and their night one. For more budget-friendly options there’s La Roche-Posay and Aldi’s skincare range has had rave reviews; the Lacura Vitamin C Hot Cloth Cleanser is only £3.99. Sun Protection Factor is always important whatever the time of year. Use in either a tinted moisturiser or under your base. CC+ Illumination SPF 50 by IT Cosmetics is amazing, lightweight and has light reflecting particles. An eye cream is vital, I love a rich creamy formula which hydrates, like Honest Beauty Deep Hydration Eye Cream. Diet is a factor too, sleep patterns, sun, alcohol, sugar and stress can also impact your complexion. Avoid trying out new products before the big day though, as you don’t want any last-minute flare ups and if you’re considering anything more radical, see a dermatologist at least six months beforehand to discuss it first. Exfoliating to get rid of dead skin cells that have built up, can help repair summer skin. Treat yourself to a face mask a week before or a dry sheet mask and for a soft kissable pout don’t forget a good lip balm once the colder weather kicks in.
