Local experts on autumn weddings HOT TOPIC LIGHT UP THE SKY We’re getting married next autumn because it’s our favourite time of year and want to make it a celebration to remember for our guests. What would you suggest? Vanessa says: What could be better than a fireworks display? With bonfire night on the calendar, it’s the perfect time of year and provides, not only a visual treat for your guests but great photos too. If the weather’s fine, your loved ones can gather outside on the terrace or snuggle around a firepit toasting marshmallows with a warming hot toddy or steaming mug of chocolate as they watch. You could even provide cosy blankets or throws to keep them toasty. For maximum oohs and ahhs it’s best to use professionals who specialise in design artistry. You can reflect the season with autumnal colours complemented by special effects like swirling flowers alongside traditional crowd-pleasers. Choreography is key, filling the sky with patterns and layers, like a colourful rainbow arch or a loud whistle and crackle to make everyone jump. You can even take it to the next level and personalise your display with your initials lit up in sparkles. Firstly, you’ll need to check that your venue allows fireworks. Some will only permit low-noise displays, which can still be just as stunning. The cost doesn’t have to be scary either. An end-of-evening display needs last no longer than five minutes to give you a spectacular finale. Shows can be designed to suit you and your budget and it doesn’t have to be complicated to arrange. How can we reflect this in our wedding stationery? Kimberley says: Colours are key for an autumnal wedding. Deep reds, burgundy and plum tones with mustard, orange and shades of brown are all great for that warm inviting feel. Including seasonal elements like illustrations of leaves, foliage and pumpkins are also ideal. I love this time of year myself and I have created an autumn-themed wedding stationery suite featuring pumpkins and falling leaves. You can pair the invitation with a range of extras such as a luxurious vellum wrap, envelope liners and wax seals for an extra special touch. Continue the theme with your on-the-day stationery including order of the day cards to match your invites, place names, table numbers, table plans, menus, order of service cards and more for a fully coordinated look. If you have a specific idea in mind you can always opt for a bespoke design service to get the wedding stationery of your dreams! Kimberley Hooley | Stationery designer | www.kghillustrates.co.uk 92
