Your East Anglian Wedding - October/November 2019 (Issue 39)
My mum is a priest in the Diocese of Peterborough and works in the cathedral which gave us the fantastic opportunity of not only getting married there, but by her, which was extra special. My Athena by Dando London dress was the first one I tried on. I literally had butterflies in my stomach and was overwhelmed with emotion the moment I saw myself in it. I wanted the bridesmaids to be in long floaty dresses, so I chose a pink Grecian-style design. The flowergirls looked pretty in white and the pageboys had blue suits and cute ties with little cars on. For the cathedral we had large palms and plants with lush green leaves which contrasted beautifully against the backdrop. I work in our family pot plant business, along with my two older brothers, so we were always going to have a wedding full of greenery and flowers. J ohn wooed Alex for a year before finally winning her over with his charms. “He’d seen me out and about on nights out and finally plucked up the courage to speak to me but I was playing hard to get. It took another year before we finally went on a date” reveals Alex. “I’d never met anyone like him before and was attracted to his outgoing, warm and funny personality.” John popped the question in beautiful botanical gardens overlooking the Mediterranean while they were on holiday in the south of France. “It was the most amazing, romantic moment of my life. I burst into tears and he didn’t hear me say yes at first!” recalls Alex. “My parents were there too and managed to get it all on camera. John had actually asked my father for permission the year before, when he first thought about proposing, so it was a long time coming,” she adds. Read on for her account of their big day... 52
