Your East Anglian Wedding - Jun/Jul 2019 (Issue 37)
Cambridgeshire-based Little Piggy (littlepiggycatering.co.uk ) specialises in innovative food for a range of different wedding themes. Owner Charlie McLaughlin says, “An outdoor venue often offers up the opportunity to create a more relaxed wedding vibe. When you’re out in the great outdoors there’s nothing better than a barbecue, but rather than offering up a burger or two you can really push the boat out for your wedding.” Food, glorious food Charlie suggests: ❤ Create a feast by serving whole smoked brisket of beef pulled and served with some pickled vegetables, barbecued Moroccan lamb shoulder and spatchcock chickens. You can also sneak in some very well-cooked locally made sausages, after all everyone loves a banger! ❤ Don’t forget your vegetarian guests, the number of people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet is increasing for both health and environmental reasons. The beauty of fruit and veg is that the striking colours can help to create an eye catching display. ❤ Offering a selection of dishes for guests to help themselves is a great way to let them choose their favourites. Grazing tables are enjoying their time in the limelight, and rightly so. Far removed from the beige buffets of old, this new take on casual dining is great. If done well, a grazing station can look too good to eat and serves as décor as well as catering. ❤ When it comes to a three-course meal, nowadays it’s very unlikely you’ll be served three plates of food sitting down. Long banqueting tables are increasingly chosen over round tables. Think sharing platters, antipasti or mezze to start, so everyone can just dig in, followed by your favourite meats served with amazing sides for everyone to share. ❤ For something sweet you can continue the sharing theme at the tables, however many couples opt for a dessert station, so family and friends can choose from several delightful, perfectly presented puds. The finishing touches The Wonky Donkey mobile bar is available for weddings and comes fully stocked, including more than 30 different gins as well as a variety of spiced and flavoured rums. The stable has been added to recently so The Wonky Donkey is now available in either green, dark blue or Paris blue. In the summer, their Pimms tricycle is also a big hit for al fresco welcome drinks post-vows. Visit wonkydonkeybar.co.uk Hang an array of twinkling lights from the trees and on your marquee, bell tents or tipi for a magical evening scene. Create wonderful illuminated walkways and light up outdoor seating areas with garlands of festoon lights to help create a fun festival feel.
