Your East Anglian Wedding - Apr/May 2019 (Issue 36)

FOODIE HEAVEN It’s nail-biting times at Suffolk wedding venue Tuddenham Mill (tuddenhammill.co.uk ). Sous chef at its award-winning restaurant Jordan Bayes is awaiting the result of a prestigious competition. Jordan was named as one of 18 regional finalists from across the UK in the prestigious 2019 Roux Scholarship, an annual competition to find the best young chef in Britain. The scholarship, which has been running more than 30 years, was judged by celebrity chefs Michel Roux Jnr, Brian Turner and James Martin and other Michelin-starred chefs.  For the regional final, Jordan had two-and-a-half hours to cook his main dish, along with a dessert from a mystery box of ingredients given to the chefs on the day.  The judges were looking for recipes and methods which demonstrated the best balance of creativity, taste, style and practicality.  Jordan says, “I was immensely proud to be selected as a finalist in the regional final.  I was very excited to showcase my work to some of the best chefs in the UK and beyond”. The winner was due to be announced at the time of going to press, keep an eye on our website for latest news. Horseback proposal Danny Williams was Sammy Rangolan ’ s real-life knight in shining armour when he got down on one knee in the middle of the woods and popped the question – while she was on horseback! The romantic proposal took place at Suffolk outdoor wedding venue, Forest Lodge Weddings (forestlodgeweddings.co.uk) while Sammy was still in the saddle. “It was a complete surprise,” says Sammy. “Tommo was my first pony and I ’ d had to give him up a few years ago because I was so busy. I kept in touch with the new owners and luckily was able to take him out when ever I wanted. On the day, I thought it was just a special treat that Danny had organised for me to take Tommo for a ride in Thetford Forest.” The game was up as he steered her through to a clearing in the woods. “It ’ s where the outdoor wedding ceremonies are held and it was set up with candles, flowers and prosecco. Danny asked me to marry him and I said ’ yes ’ of course!” To add to her joy, Sammy found out the same day that she could have her beloved pony back. “Tommo ’ s owners were in on it and had followed behind to get photos,” she reveals. The couple met a year ago while they were both living in Essex, they bought their own home in Norfolk recently and are now planning to tie the knot next summer. “We hit it off straight away and I knew from the start that Danny was the one ,” adds Sammy.
