103 EXPERT ADVICE Q&A Beauty Local experts advise on hair and beauty resolutions for 2019 brides Skin deep I need to introduce some lifestyle changes before my wedding as my hectic schedule is taking its toll on my health and wellness. Can you suggest some easy steps to follow to get me on track? Sam says: Every bride wants to look and feel flawless on their wedding-day. Of course a make-up artist with a kit full of concealer and colour corrector can hide just about anything, but what about the getting-ready photos? If the thought of being snapped au naturel leaves you in a cold sweat, it’s probably time to start that pre-wedding beauty routine. Here are a few simple tips to make sure you’re ready for those #nofilter moments. ❤ Hydration Staying hydrated is a great way to flush out toxins. Set yourself a daily goal and for added motivation why not treat yourself to an infuser water bottle? Add cucumber, lemon, lime, blueberries or raspberries and your skin will love you for it. ❤ Get those zzzs in Skimp on sleep and your complexion can look dull and lifeless. Check out the This Works range for some award-winning sleep remedies. ❤ Treat your skin Make an upfront investment in professional facials, it could mean you’ll need to wear less make-up on your big day. Beauty therapists love to make people feel more confident and can advise on the best products to suit you and your goals. ❤ Clean eating What you eat directly affects your hormones and can inflame acne, eczema and psoriasis. Keep a food diary and note any changes to your complexion, good or bad. Boost your immunity with things like ginger, turmeric and echinacea. ❤ Perfect peepers Good lashes and brows can make a huge difference to your wedding make-up. Lash lifts are great for brides and last up to 12 weeks and I usually advise having it done a week before your wedding. For your brows there’s everything from microblading to HD brows. A regular visit to a salon offering a tailored brow service will ensure any gaps are filled in and your therapist can remove any unwanted hairs and start to design the shape that best suits you. What would you suggest to help get it in tip-top condition in time for the big day? Lisa says: Start now by using good professional products. Although they might be more expensive, they’re highly concentrated, so should actually last longer than a supermarket or high street brand and do a far better job. Also... ❤ Don’t guess your hair type, speak to your hairstylist and they’ll be able to advise you about the right products to suit you, how to use them correctly and whether you need any special treatments too. ❤ Always use a salon heat-protection product when styling and don’t have the temperature too high, about 185°C is perfect, otherwise it can break the bonds in your hair making it dry, weak and prone to splitting. Believe it or not using a hairdryer at the right temperature is actually better than leaving your hair to dry naturally for a long time, which is more likely to make it stretch and break. ❤ If you’re thinking of having a colour, always have it done professionally! Do your homework on the salons near you and the brands they use. Look for products that are kind to your locks. We use Organic Colour Systems which are fantastic, vegan friendly and with no harsh chemicals. ❤ When choosing a shade, think about your wedding dress and the overall look you’re aiming for. Blonde and highlighted hair is My skin suffers from dry patches and breakouts during the winter. What should I do to repair the damage before my wedding? Stephanie says: Although make-up can cover all manor of sins, it’s still essential to look after your complexion to look and feel your absolute best on your special day. I recommend starting a skincare routine six months prior to your wedding. Not cleansing, toning, exfoliating and moisturising regularly is something many of us are guilty of, however it will make a huge difference to the feel and appearance of your skin. One of the top resolutions for many people is healthy eating, after all you are what you eat right? Well this couldn’t be more true when it comes to your skin, cutting out the junk and eating foods containing plenty of vitamins such as collagen-boosting vitamin C and antioxidant-rich vitamins A and E will help to give you that all important smooth bridal glow. So, I usually advise brides to have highlights or lowlights (they can be as subtle as you like) just to add depth and definition and help show off a gorgeous style.
