Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - September/October 2024 (Issue 51)

CADHAY HOUSE, OTTERY ST MARY Cadhay is a truly magical venue, a blend of history and charm within the peace and tranquillity of the East Devon countryside surrounded by magnificent gardens. The large manor house dates back to the 16th century and in recent years, has been transformed into a house used for weddings, holidays, family gatherings and for groups wanting a large property to stay in together. The accommodation is set over three floors in 12 luxurious, tastefully decorated bedrooms, comfortably sleeping up to 22 people. Newlyweds can stay in a traditional four-poster bed or a more contemporary version hand-crafted by Cadhay’s furniture-maker owner. Alternatively, guests can sleep under the eaves in the cosy attic rooms plus there are three holiday cottages which sleep an additional 14 people. The glorious gardens include a beautiful double-herbaceous border, ancient Wisteria climbing the walls of the manor house, a croquet lawn, medieval fishponds, clipped yews, scented roses and a stunning lime avenue on which to approach the house. Behind the house, there’s also the walled kitchen gardens which are now allotments. A magnificent display of homegrown vegetables and wigwams of sweet peas, gladioli or glorious dahlias can be seen. Photographers love it here and couples will be spoilt for choice when it comes to their big-day photos. For an all-weather ceremony, there are three licensed rooms, the most popular being the historical Roof Chamber, with the roof dating back to the 1430s. There’s also the Granary, a modern, light and airy room looking out on to the manor house gardens and the Old Apple Store, a rustic-inspired, red-bricked barn with beams that opens to reveal the walled kitchen garden. Garden ceremonies can be held by the medieval fishponds for an intimate 40 guests and in other stunning spots for up to 110 guests in total (from May until September). For a legal ceremony, couples book and pay Devon Registrars separately. Receptions can be hosted inside The Manor House for a maximum of 22 guests, in the Old Apple Store for up to 80 guests (where not used for a ceremony) or in a marquee (during May through to September) hired through an approved supplier. The venue is suited to bespoke, personal weddings and couples can arrange much of the organisation themselves. Catering and marquees are arranged and paid for separately through approved suppliers and the team at the venue can prepare the property but do not manage the reception and ceremony. To have a ceremony or reception at Cadhay, the main house must be hired for accommodation for up to 22 guests for a minimum three-night weekend stay or if it’s in the school holidays, a full week. The holiday cottages are an optional hire but on the same basis. https://cadhay.org.uk www.passion4photos.co.uk OCEAN SUITE, EXMOUTH Ocean sits proudly opposite Exmouth’s seafront promenade, lined with palm trees and colourful beach huts, showcasing stunning views of the coastline and the English Channel.
