In the evening, they changed into Modi jackets and Sherwanis, embracing the Indian cultural attire and adding a festive flair to the celebrations. “This change highlighted the blending of our traditions and brought a dynamic element to the wedding,” Shiv says. “Lily’s mother also sewed the bridesmaids’ dresses, maintaining the family tradition. The dresses were in a soft, pastel palette, chosen to harmonize with the natural, rustic theme of the wedding. The elegant and simple design allowed the wildflower bouquets they carried to pop with colour and connect to the overall décor. They also changed to Indian dresses in the evening.” TIME TO CELEBRATE “We wanted our wedding to be a memorable celebration, blending both our cultures and traditions, and providing our guests with unique and enjoyable experiences,” Lily and Shiv tell us. The speeches were a highlight of the day, filled with heartfelt moments and humour. “Shiv wrote and recited a poem about how we first met, captivating everyone with our love story,” Lily says. “Shiv and his dad, a music teacher specializing in Indian drums, collaborated on a special performance. Shiv selected three songs for his dad to play on the Tabla, marking the transition from the wedding breakfast to the party. The songs were Lean On by Major Lazer; Shape of You by Ed Sheeran and Cheap Thrills by Sia featuring Sean Paul. This fusion of popular Western hits with the traditional Indian Tabla added a unique flair that delighted our guests.” After the Tabla performance, the couple had the Dohl drums played, traditionally used in the farming villages of India. “Shiv’s dad explained their significance and the history of Bhangra dancing, which beautifully tied into the farming setting of Cornwall. Our guests were invited to join in and learn a few Bhangra moves, creating an interactive and lively atmosphere,” Lily says. “Shiv’s cousins set up a henna station, offering intricate designs for guests to try. This was popular with the children and evening guests, adding an authentic touch to our celebration.” The couple hired DJ Deven from London, who expertly fused various musical styles, ensuring everyone had a great time. “He was amazing being a Capital 1Xtra guest DJ,” they tell us. The disco set began as the evening guests arrived, setting the perfect tone for the night. “At 9 pm, we had the Indian Jago celebration,” Lily and Shiv tell us. “This traditional event, where guests dance with illuminated pots on their heads, went on for an impressively long time because everyone was enjoying it so much. It was a vibrant and energetic highlight of the evening. To keep the party going, we handed out glow sticks at 10:30 pm. The bright colours and lively atmosphere perfectly complemented the full moon that graced our wedding week, making it a night to remember.” The confetti shot was an unforgettable highlight. Due to the wind, the confetti kept rising, creating a magical and whimsical scene that felt straight out of a fairytale.” - Lily Top tip: “You can never be too organised, the more you are, the more you’ll enjoy it on the day.Talk through the wedding timeline with your suppliers and key members of the family which will help with the flow of the day.” - Lily and Shiv “Sadie, our photographer, was incredible. She went above and beyond to capture every special moment, ensuring that we have beautiful memories to look back on for years to come. And Liam our videographer brought his drone to capture the magic too.” - Lily and Shiv 42
