Harriet and Liam met at their local pub. “We were set up by our mutual friend Brian but neither of us knew it!” Harriet tells us. “Brian had asked if I would join a group of friends that particular evening and when I arrived, he was there with Liam who had broken his hand less than 24 hours earlier! Brian was determined for us to cross paths and the rest is history.” The couple became engaged during a surprise proposal in a beach restaurant in Phuket during a trip around Thailand. “Liam had attempted to ask me to marry him earlier on in the holiday at a roof-top bar but after getting down on one knee, he realised that he had left the ring in the safe back at the hotel!” Harriet explains. SETTING THE SCENE Being from Manchester, the couple wanted a destination wedding without leaving the country and Carbis Bay Estate was perfect. “The views from the Ugly Butterfly restaurant are beautiful and so is the stretch of beach belonging to the estate,” Harriet says. “We both love a good party so decided to create a beach party atmosphere.” The couple chose circular tables decorated with shell place names and candles dotted around rose and orchid flower arrangements as their centrepieces. “Our favours were shot glasses labelled with ‘take a shot we’ve tied the knot’ which our guests loved!” Harriet says. “Our two-tier pink and white cake was also enjoyed by all.” “Nothing compares to the feeling of seeing each other at the aisle before the ceremony starts, we were both very emotional!” – Harriet and Liam 41 REAL WEDDINGS
