A recent redevelopment sees the spacious rooms decorated with vibrant pops of colour and the 2 AA Rosette fine dining restaurant features wall-to-ceiling sliding doors leading to the decked terrace that showcases spectacular views. Outdoor ceremonies take place against this backdrop with guests enjoying al fresco drinks and garden games in the manicured walled garden. The grounds are home to a pond, a wild orchard and pretty walkways perfect for big-day photographs. The large Acer (maple) tree positioned just outside the restaurant adds romance to winter weddings turning seasonal shades of orange and red. In the main house, exclusive-use weddings can take place for up to 90 guests during the day and 120 people in the evening. Larger parties can enjoy a marquee in the grounds while for couples wanting something small and intimate, the team at the hotel can offer elopement weddings, afternoon nuptials and smaller celebrations without exclusive use of the property being taken. Ceremonies take place in a choice of four licensed rooms and for those wanting a church wedding, there are some local country and town-based churches close by. DEER’S LEAP RETREAT, SOUTH MOLTON This stunning wedding venue is surrounded by 15 acres of farmland, situated on the edge of Exmoor’s national park which provides stunning vistas of rolling fields and moorland from everywhere on the property. The stone barn features a private bar with comfy sofas and chairs, exposed wooden beams offset by cartwheels draped in fairylights, a large wood-burning fire, stone-flagged flooring and large doors opening out on to the sun-drenched, south-facing patio which overlooks the lake and gazebo. The patio area provides a relaxed space for champagne and cocktails and lawn games can be enjoyed on the large adjacent lawn. New for summer 2022 is an extended terrace outside the barn where heaters and firepits provide warmth during the balmy evenings. At dusk, fairylights and festoon lighting lead guests down to the lantern-lit lake for fireworks presented to the couple’s choice of song. Ceremonies take place in the wooden lakeside gazebo perched on the side of the lake surrounded by rolling countryside. It accommodates up to 150 guests under a stretch canopy lit with romantic festoon lighting.
