Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - March/April 2022 (Issue 36)

Q&A Our experts answer your questions Meet the expert: Kimberly Holland is a bridal hair and make-up artist covering weddings in Cornwall. Kimberly says: Long hair worn down is always a popular style for brides. Flowing hair looks romantic and, if you’re lucky enough to get married near the coast, gorgeous beachy curls are a great choice. To give your waved locks a tousled, casual vibe, try creating some curl using straighteners or tongs, starting away from the root and leaving out the ends because the ends of the hair have a slightly straighter finish naturally. Don’t use too much product during the curling process to keep the waves soft looking and weightless. Styling with your parting in the middle keeps your look current. When your hair is worn down, you have plenty of options to accessorise it. A flower crown made with fresh or dried blooms always looks stunning. Keep a couple of grips in your purse on the day so that you can pin small pieces of hair away from your face around the flowers as the day moves into the evening. Hairbands are another Insta-worthy trend, especially the padded fabric ones that come in a variety of colours and styles to match any colour theme. Braids are a fashionable way of holding as much, or as little, hair away from your face as you’d like while keeping the majority of your hair down and flowing. Pins with pearls or sparkle add the final finishing touch! Helena says: My advice to brides is to keep their make-up simple and flawless on their wedding day. A natural glow shines through and this is achieved by having a good skincare routine in the lead-up to the wedding - it’s never too early to start this! Invest in quality products that last and always remove your make-up every night before bed. Use a toner, serum and moisturiser and don’t forget to drink plenty of water every day. Before applying your make-up, use a primer. I’d recommend a mattifying option which creates a good base. Add a BB cream to even out your skin tone (which is less heavy than a foundation) and follow this with a setting powder and bronzer. When it comes to choosing a colour for your eye shadow, a favourite eye palette of mine is from Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Collection featuring stunning pops of colour. Finish with lashings of mascara, a hint of subtle sheer colour on your lips and a setting spray that fixes everything in place.
